11.6 vs 13.3 performance differences processor-wise

How big do you think the difference is between the high-end 11.6'' C2D 1.6 mHz and the low end 13.3'' C2D 1.86 mHz...?

1. There is obviously a difference of 286 mHz clock speed

2. But how big is the impact of lower FSB and half L2 cache in the 11.6 compared to 13.3?

The macair 11 is in a league of its own. The 13 MBA is just a macpro missing a few items and skinny. I would rather buy a macpro 13 than a mac air 13. But the 11 is pure and simple genius.

In my humble opinion, the 11" is underpowered, I wouldn't go for anything less than the high end C2D 2.1, think about it, C2D is at EOL, so you are basically buying an outdated processor, and then you go for the low end of it? What is it?

The TDP of the 11" is 10W and the 13" is 17W. 11" might be quieter.

it does what you need then its good, your stuck in the mindset that you have to have everything current,

i3 + integrated or c2d with 320m

its a clear decision for most.

Why would you spend money on outdated stuff? Because it is made by Apple? Who else could pull a stunt like this, get an EOL processor and launch a new computer.

I understand the graphics card issue, but why they haven't created a chipset of their own like the iPad? Why would I upgrade from my 2.13 to another of equal power? For 2 extra GB of RAM?

To be honest the difference for everyday usage is so non factor that I would gladly take the 1.4 GHz for its 10W TDP any day instead of the 1.86 with the 17W in the 13" if it were an option...

They didn't create their own chipset, they purchased the company that makes them.

For Apple to develop their own GPU would be a monumental task, considering there are companies that dedicate all of their resources to it and still can barely do a turn around.

That is not realistic. The only realistic route to go would be with AMD, and I can't see that happening right away.

That depends on what you have. If you have SSD already, it may not worthwhile. But if you have regular hard drive then it's worth it. If you are concerned about CPU speed, just get the high end config. From what I've read though, people seems to be happy with the base model performance

I have a Rev C 2.13 with 128 GB SSD.
