11.7.3 Performance Boost?

I just installed the new update on my Retina 2014 13" MBP with 16Gb of Ram and the OS in general seems a lot snappier, doesn't hang as much.

Also Safari got an update and it too seems a lot faster. Especially the animations and scrolling isn't as laggy.



Can anyone confirm?

Believe I see an improvement at 11.7.3 on a late 2013 13" mbp (8gb, 256gb). Thought there was a bit of a lag at times on prior update (11.7.2, about a month ago). Only updated about 8 hours ago, so I could be mistaken. Scrolling in News and Stocks seemed a bit jurky and jumpy at 11.7.2 (generally around ads); less so now in Stocks. Web browser (Safari) is definitely smoother.

Exactly, it’s those stutters and jerkiness that seem to have dissapeared. Also you can swipe from app to app much more smoother now without feeling like the computer is hanging up.

I also tried Diablo 3 yesterday and now again after the update and before it had some random massive stutters but was otherwise smooth. Now those huge stutters are gone.

Really digging it so far. Made this machine a lot better.
 
I noticed it also on my little 12" MacBook 2015. Any performance improvements on the underpowered 12" MacBook is a VERY welcome improvement.

I thought it was just me hoping. It doesn't seem to lag as much as before. :)

I’ve noticed it too—I initially downgraded my 2014 MBP to Mojave because the first versions of Big Sur made the UI very slow and I was noticing abnormally sluggish animations with minimizing open windows. But today I fired up the 11.7.3 update and navigating is about as smooth as Mojave was. If I’m only bound to 11.7.x updates from now on until I move to a different machine, I guess I’ll take it!

You're also using the 13" version?
 
Yep! 13” 2014 (8GB RAM, 128GB SSD)

Lasted my entire college career and then some. Honestly the best laptop I’ve ever owned. The battery is fried though, the battery condition randomly goes between “service now” and “normal”, but that’s the only real complain I have about it

You could change the battery. I have one with 485 cycles and it still lasts a long time. If I only do some light browsing und such I can easily use the computer for 4-5 hours if not more.

Don't know if it's worth it though...

Yeah I definitely hear you on the battery—I’m not too keen on the Amazon ones for like $60 because they have an equal amount of 1 star and 5 star reviews and I’m not gambling with a component that could potentially be a dud or worse yet…an actual bomb.

The iFixit ones are what I would gravitate towards, but at $100 that’s practically half of what these models are going for nowadays. Not to mention these are on the obsolete list also.

In the same situation, I get about 4-5 hours with light tasks, but in sleep mode with occasional usage it lasts most of the day. Took it in to a service station and they said the battery is still good and they did not want to replace it. Battery is seven years old. I guess I will run it out and then attempt to change it out. Probably Apple doesn’t have batteries anymore for MacBook 2015. :(
 
Yeah they most likely don’t have batteries for that anymore, as I think that’s on the obsolete list too (or at least going to be bumped off the vintage list and onto the obsolete list). If you live near an Apple Store, it’s worth calling though—you never know what they might have just chillin where they do their repairs.

Has anyone done the 11.7.3 update on a 5,1 CMP? My system is buggy and the finder crashes. Hopeful this update might stabilize it? And........go!
 
I put 11.7.3 on a MBP 14,3 because I found 13.2 a bit laggy. I also put it on a MBP 12,1 and the install seems very snappy and preforms well. I actually think I like 11.x better than 12.x. on late Intel.
