I picked up a new 11” Pro yesterday, and on getting home (where I have a strong 3G signal, but weaker LTE signal), I found that it wasn’t actually activated.

After dealing with Verizon for a couple hours, it eventually became activated, but would only connect to LTE - no 3G, and no option in settings to disable LTE. Last night I got some pages to load via LTE, but today there’s no connection whatsoever, despite showing LTE at two bars.

Verizon has told me to update, which I’m currently doing via WiFi. But I’m highly concerned that there’s no 3G signal at all.

I’ve reset network settings multiple times, have done hard resets, restarts, etc. Verizon is stating it’s activated and should be working, but it clearly isn’t, and completely lacking 3G and options for it is alarming.

For additional reference, I had a 10.5” iPad Pro that had a stable connection all the time, as well as two iPhone XRs that always have either 3 bars of 3G or 2 bars LTE.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? Does anyone have suggestions for how to resolve the issue?

That’s interesting. The Verizon site specs: https://www.verizonwireless.com/tablets/apple-ipad-pro-12-9-2018/

Shows EV-DO Rev. A and Rev. B (800, 1900 MHz) for the 12.9 in pro but not the case for the 11in. You would be using evdo for data on Verizon not CDMA so 3G may be in reference to one or other. But. Hmm.

Wonder if that’s a mistake or if not, no EvDO/3G data for the 11 in. I’m not sure. Maybe.... hope not though.

Edit : that’s not to say it doesn’t support 3G but it’s showing on what would be like Tmo and ATT 3G networks.

So I sorted out the activation with Verizon - the connection last night was a fluke.

That being said, while it now has nice and stable LTE in stronger signal areas, it unfortunately still has no 3G whatsoever.

I’m doing a full restore now, and will attempt an update as well, but it’s looking likely that it’s missing band support on Verizon that I rely on at my home.

EDIT: After a full restore, it appears the issue persists. Verizon is now looking into it again, but if it can’t be resolved it’ll be going back tomorrow.

It’s unlikely to be missing band support since 3G on Verizon uses only a handful of bands that haven’t changed in 20 years. Verizon is phasing out its 3G network, which is probably why Apple removed the option to disable LTE. My guess is that the Verizon carrier settings are telling it to prioritize LTE over 3G. Unfortunately, that’s something that Verizon would have to fix through a carrier settings update, which they may not place a high priority on.

Can anyone with an 11” LTE Model on Verizon confirm that they have 3G service, and the ability to turn off LTE?

EDIT: after two hours on the phone with upper tech support, the device was deemed defective and the solution provided was to return it for a replacement.

I’d still like to hear from someone with a Verizon 11” on whether you get 3G or have the LTE disabling option in settings.

I can confirm I don’t have the ability to disable LTE.

Verizon is ending 3G data coverage by the end of 2019. https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-218813/

I’m aware, but have been told the 4G network will be expanding to replace the coverage. I can’t imagine Verizon would simply throw away all of their rural customers that still rely on 3G.

Can anyone with a 12.9” 2018 Pro on Verizon specify if they can disable LTE?
They will be repurposing the 850MHz and 1900MHz bands for LTE.
