Like many others, my 11" iPad Pro (ordered at launch) has been suffering from an intermittent unresponsive screen. I don't know when it started, but it wasn't always that way. I'm currently running the latest version of iOS (12.3.1).

I had tried restarting several times but somehow it never occurred to me to try "force restarting" until earlier today. The way to do this is:

Press and quickly release the Volume Up button.
Press and quickly release the Volume Down button.
Press and hold the Top button until the device restarts.

This seems to have fixed the issue for me and now the screen is very responsive. Hopefully this solution works for others as it is a very frustrating issue.
 
It is a temp fix. It is a hardware issue.

A hardware issue can hardly be covered up by a software step. Hardware issues are broken components and they are usually broken all the time. If the issue goes away and comes back that is not a component failure.

Not necessarily.
Unstable and unreliable hardware could also cause this. What you describe is that the hardware likely has been damaged or broken for a while.

I’m not here to argue.

I had the same problem with 2 of my Pros. Apple replaced both. New ones are fine.

This is a very common with Pros.

Why does this only happen to the iPad Pro?
 
I've been seeing it off and on with different betas. Yesterday's update, so far, has fixed it on my 11"
 
It doesn't happen every day. But happens quite often with defective hardware.

Is this your experience with 11" iPad Pros or just the 10.5" models listed in your signature?

But I have read that 11's have the same issue. As do both 2nd and 3rd Gen 12.9s.
 
I don't have this problem on either the 2018 11" or 2018 12.9" iPad Pros. I did have this problem with the 2017 12.9".

Not every iPad has this issue.

But it is still common.

And affects both models of 2nd and 3rd Gen pros.

The 11” one is the worst affected.

That doesn’t mean every single iPad will have the issue. But maybe 5-10%?

I'm only making assertions for my own iPad Pro experience... you're making very broad generalizations across the entire population of iPad Pros. Do you have any evidence of the "5-10%" figure or that the 11" one is the "worst affected"...?

11” worst is based on reading the forums.

5-10% should be wrong. It’s a throw away number.
 
Probably due to the parts used.

Also happens to some iPhone X pieces.

Unsure about regular iPads. But this won’t happen to those iPad models that are older than 2017.
I don't think this is an issue on any of the home button iPads. I think they all use the same tech as the older models. Might be something to do with how they design the bezelless screens.

It is a known issue. Started with 2017 Pros. And AFAIK probably affects the 2018 regular iPad too. Along with newer Pros.

Would you happen to know if it's a display issue or a board level issue? If it's display then makes me wonder what changed to cause the issue.
 
It is also present in 2015 12.9 iPad Pros... but not to the extent as later models. I haven't heard or experienced it with the 2018 9.7 iPads.

Ok. I wasn’t aware of that.

So probably all Pros at the least.

I have heard of some 2018 9.7’s to have it as well.

Also, it takes a few weeks at least to manifest in most cases. The 2019 iPads might get it over time.
 
To be honest I had some issues with my regular 2018 iPad when it comes to the display not being responsive. It was way back when I bought it last year October. Also it happened only when the iPad was charging. If it was not charging, everything was fine.

Now I don't experience this issue at all - both during charging and when is not charging.
 
Only problem my 11" has ever given me is every once in a while I am unable to get the on screen keyboard to deactivate. I push the keyboard button and nothing happens. It has only happened a few times.

This isn’t the issue being talked about. This is a software glitch. That isn’t.
