I have the M1 12.9 and battery is not better than my 2015 MacBook Pro 15!
Plus, have you noticed any weird things happening to the battery icon? Sometimes I charge my iPad for some minutes and doesn’t show any % increase.

Give it a bit more time to settle in. Make sure everything is finished syncing and processing, especially photos. I do find the 11” lasts less than the 12.9” but you should be able to get 8-10 hours of Screen On Time.

well i'm curious so i did test myself
play a 4K video from youtube at full brightness
and compared it side by side with my ipad air 4th gen
the ipad air lasted about 5 hours the ipad pro m1 11" about 5 hours 45 minutes
so i guess the battery is normal then.
but compared to my iphone 12 pro max and macbook pro M1 , the ipad battery is way worse.

You’re not the first person I hear mention battery life of the 11” M1 IPP comparatively worse than the iPhone 12. It is the first I hear of comparing it the M1 MBP so that’s enlightening.

My M1 iPad Pro 11 battery life is phenomenal. I came from a 2017 10.5 iPad Pro which wasn’t bad BUT the M1 battery life has been extraordinary especially when playing intense games. So Im going to have to disagree.
I've recently upgraded as you have and agree with your experiences.

MacBook Pro is NOT an iPad Pro, so I’m not sure what you’re doing. I think the thread is clear.
Ipad used too have better battery life than Macbook's, but after the switch to Apple silicon it is opposite. That might give the impression that iPad's battery life has become worse, when in fact it is not, it is just the macbook batterylife that has become so much better.

Mine is phenomenal, as well! I’ve had it for about a week & I’ve been getting anywhere from 10-12hrs on screen.

I also can’t believe how great the battery life is on the new 11” M1 iPad Pro. I upgraded from the 10.5” iPad Pro which gave me about 6 hours of screen time. I’m getting 11-14 hours of screen time with my new one. It’s literally about double what I was getting before.

It runs warm near the logo for light tasks like browsing. Heat = power consumption. If it does software decoding like M1 on MacBooks for VP9, AV1, etc. then battery consumption will be even higher for video streaming.

This video matches my own experience for the 11” iPad Pro. It did over 11 hours of screen-on time with some processor heavy tasks included. I can get 14 hours if I just use it for web browsing, YouTube, and eBay.
