So I am wondering what the deal is here. The laptop has been out for a month and a half, and there's still nothing from any of the "big boys" out there:

Incase: They said mid November when I emailed them earlier this month. Still not seeing anything in-store or on their website.

Tucano: They too said by end of november. I've seen some new generic cases, but every Apple laptop has a Tucano Neoprene Custom Case for it, and this one seems to be still waiting :-(

Speck: I was in an apple store and they claimed the Speck rep was in the store the day before and stated "within a week" ... that was November 2.

Sena: Nothing for the 11", couple new designs for the 13" but I'm guessing they're made with specs of the old in mind.

Crumpler: Still the closest match is for the iPad, which is what I'm using... it's a great fit, except the fact that about 3/4 of an inch of the MBA 11" hangs out the end, which people think is funny, haha, okay yeah it's a little funny. It's like when you have a hole in your sock and the tip of your toe sticks out. Hard not to notice and giggle.

Kennsington\Timbuktu\STM\BUILT: Nada from any of these guys.

Just seems odd to me. There have literally been only 2 or 3 made to date... The hippy corduroy one, the from a crappy company (MY opinion from experience ordering it) SF Bags Sleeve\Envelope, and then a couple random things made for other products that people have gotten their 11" to fit into loosely .... You'd think companies would be rushing to put something out, as buyers would be flocking with their pent-up-demand based on all the 11" Air's sold, plus christmas coming up, yet I don't see where any of the major players have even ANNOUNCED that something is coming.

What's going on here?

I wouldn't say nobody. Waterfield Design (sfbags.com) has two sleeves and a new 11" Muzetto case for the 11" air.

There's not really much to add though, sadly the big case manufacturers haven't made anything yet because they're big. Big companies take longer to change than small companies. I think we'll be waiting a while.

Uber.

I'm sure most if not all of these manufacturers have something in the works. Apple is very secretive about new products and when one is released, 3rd party manufacturers can't immediately have a product ready to meet the demand for new accessories. They will need to do a lot of research and testing on the apple device. There is a lot of work that goes into launching a new product.

When the iPhone 4 came out, there were not a lot of cases available. I know this because I spent a few months looking for a case that actually fit my new phone correctly and didn't just "kind of fit" like most did. Most cases were put on shelves as quickly as possible, which means they weren't being properly tested.

In the case of the new Macbook Air, which is not nearly as popular as the iPhone, it would be foolish for companies to allocate the majority of their resources into getting their macbook air accessories to the market too quickly. They will test and develop until they have a reasonably good product that will not create problems for them in the future. Recalls are extremely costly as is the bad reputation received from ill-conforming products (such as some of the earlier iPhone 4 cases). The macbook air is an odd shape. It is not symmetrical like the other macbooks which creates another design problem. They can't just take one of their already developed cases and change the specs. They may even have to develop a new process to manufacture it.

I can assure you that the majority of these companies are working on something as it would be in their best interest to do so. I do not believe any of them are in a rush to release a case though. Companies are almost always behind schedule in development. Saying "the first week in November" could mean weeks or months after that. If their deadline comes and they don't have the product, they can't release it (without future consequence).

I'm really astonished how long it takes for the "big ones" to produce proper cases. I finally ordered a Waterfield sleeve, because I don't want to carry my MBA around without appropriate protection, but because I'm in Germany it'll take a while until it arrives (my best guess is end of January, maybe even early February... hooray for customs). My local Apple retailer is offering a case since last week, but it's way overpriced and not practical at all.

I think the whole case-scenario is quite weird. There are new iPod cases available even before the iPod itself is released, but we have to wait this long for MBA bags? Maybe the well-known manufacturers don't see a market.

Was looking for something like the Incase Nylon bag I'd been using with my 13" mac pro last couple years. http://www.goincase.com/products/detail/nylon-sleeve-plus-cl57065

Luckily I found a bag nearly the same maybe better.

The Tucano workout bag its just like the Incase I previously had but designed exactly for the 11.6" mac air. I picked it up at FRY's and the crazy thing is it cost $49-59 for the 13" version but only 16.99 for the 11.6" version!! Highly recommend for someone looking for a carrying bag that is real slim and extra pockets to carry accessories. Love it!!

Wait until Macworld, there will be a ton of them introduced from multiple companies.

Good lord. $54 shipped to me in CA. Not really worth it for me. I think I will wait for it to come in the apple store so I can use my gift card.
