So today I picked up a 11" MBA base for the wife's Birthday tomorrow and I went to set everything up before wrapping it and it won't even power on out of the box. This seems very odd to me, as after probably a dozen or so MB, MBP's over the past years I've never had one not power up out of the box. I plugged it in and about 10 mins later come back to check it out and it powers up. I Installed Coconut battery monitor and the iStat menu, both showing the batter is at 93% Health and max capacity is 4387mah.

Any other 11" MBA users experience this or could possibly tell me what their battery condition and total capacity is please?

Thinking this may go back before it ever gets started.. but didn't want to overreact if it's a simple few steps to calibrate the battery. I am in the process now of getting it fully charged and follow Apple's recommendations to condition it once.

I wouldn't worry about it. It could have been that this was one of the early production units, fully charged originally but shutdown and left for a month or maybe more. I seriously wouldn't worry about it? Was this a pre-configured one or a CTO? If it was a pre-configured (stock) unit it could have likely sat for a long time and lost charge in the box. It depends. I am getting a CTO, it took them 3 days to build it, so I expect mine to have a charge when I get it. But I won't be too upset if I have to plug it in and charge it. I would be really upset if the battery was defective and did NOT hold a charge, but I don't think that's your issue. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I think you could be right...thanks for that thought. I honestly didn't think about how long it could be sitting in some warehouse. The only concern is the battery "health" is at 93% as being reported from iStat and Coconut battery meter. The battery life comes up 11 weeks old, so ok it was built 3 months ago, and would explain the battery being 100% discharged.

Considering the 11" MBA battery is already small, I'd hate to start out losing 7% of total charging capacity. I guess I'll find out over the next couple of days as I run battery tests and follow Apple's advice on conditioning.

Thanks for the response.

4680 is a full normal battery.

Thanks for the info. I thought that was the case but in my "About this mac" it's only reporting the 4387. If it doesn't correct itself I'll be returning it but didn't see the point in driving to the store if it was a "calibration" issue.
