Update!: I’m planning to go with a 14 plus. It’s $330 vs $230 for straight replacement of my 11pro max (on back market.com). While it’s out of my initial budget it works out to like $10 more/mo and gets me 3 years more on release date (2019 vs 2022) plus 2gb more memory, and double the space. I am on a tight budget and have had my 11pro max since 2019. Got the vertical green pixel line screen damage last night and need to replace my phone in the near future…

I’m really tempered to just get the same model with more storage off back market. I don’t need more than this phone offers (except more than 64GB…). I honestly love it. I am however worried about investing my very limited new phone budget (<$200) in an older model if compatibility will be an issue soon.

Thoughts? Advice? Opinions?

Is your budget based on what you have available right now as opposed to what you might be able to put together from now over say... the next few months?

Do you have a major carrier or a pay as you go without really any incentives?

I can see how you still get by fine with a 11 Pro Max, but I think it would be time to step up a little bit. Something from the 12 or 13 family would be a little step up too in terms of processor.

A cheap 13 would be a great option. It’s a no compromise workhorse of a device which has many years of life still left in it.

As an 11 Pro Max owner myself, I am looking to upgrade to the 15 or 16 PM later this year. I believe that iOS 26 will be the last version of iOS for this model. While there will most likely be security updates, after this time next year there won't be any upgrades.

Don't know if that is important to you, but it may be important to one or more of your financial apps at some point.

Also, the 11 series is the last LTE only iPhone. So, by replacing yours with another 11PM you are excluding 5G. Again, if that matters.

It’s based on what I can reasonably pay off in installments over the next 6months. Plan is to use backmarket + affirm. When I say tight budget, I mean my budget is razor thin. I wouldn’t be replacing it at all for at least another year if the screen weren’t unreadable
I’m on a prepay phone plan so no major carrier to buy over time bundled into the phone bill.

(ETA: the screen isn’t completely unreadable, but about ¼” strip down the middle is, which is making things rather challenging 😂)

Thanks for the explainer on the LTE/5g and lack of upgrades. Since I don’t have 5g I don’t really know what I’m missing. I’m also not sure that my carrier (metro) includes it since it’s such an inexpensive plan/network.

I have no idea what the secondary market is for iphones. Bestbuy came up as a retailer who sells used iphones. Have you looked at what they offer?
