Let me start by saying I have auto update on and don’t know exactly when it updates, but this update is the only thing I can think of, so I’m going to tie it to the update...
Well for work I’m provided an iPhone 7 to use as a hotspot, don’t ask me why they didn’t just get us all hotspots instead of phones...but up until a few days ago after about 90 seconds or so of non usage, my hotspot would basically shut off. I would have to pull up control center and turn it back on if I wanted to connect. I have been doing it like this for over a month and literally everyone I know at this place is doing the same damn thing for years. I searched for hours trying to find a solution to just have it always broadcast and auto connect when I woke up my main device, but it looks like this disconnect thing is just a feature with iPhones. All of that was up until a few days ago...I just noticed that over the past few days, I havent touched my work device and I have stayed connected. I checked all my setting, they’re all the same. I test the falling asleep thing...sure enough after about 90 seconds it disconnects, BUT as soon as I pick up my personal phone (iPhone X, iOS 12.1PB), it autoconnects to the hotspot. It’s like my dreams came true...but is this a bug in 12.1, can anyone else duplicate this, did a fairy sneak into my phone and change a setting?! What has changed in the last week to allow this? How can I fix everyone else’s phone to get this to work too?

two questions :

1. This is the beta 12.1 or have I miss a release ?
2. for hot spot - which cell company

I do have an old 7 plus on my dev account and now see that my Sprint account offers a free hot spot with throttling after some number of GB. BUT never tried it.

It’s the latest public beta
Carrier is STC (I’m currently in Saudi Arabia). I know this isn’t a limit of the carriers, I have travelled the globe and this auto connect has never worked with any. I’ve also found forums with people everywhere saying it is built into the OS to disconnect after 90 seconds of idle.
