Keep dremain' boy, they're not gonna make a miniature MBP, see this is what I think:

Core Solo MacBook (iBook replacement):
1.67 GHz Core Solo
512 MB RAM (up to 1.5 GB)
60 GB, 5.400 rpm.
Intel GMA/950 64 MB DDR
13.3" Widescreen (1280x768)
3.0 cm thick (old ibooks were 3.4 cm)
Combo drive (4x DVD+/-RW upgrade)
frontrow, singlelink DVI and magsafe

Core Duo MacBook (12" PB replacement):
1.67 GHz Core Duo
512 MB RAM (up to 2 GB)
80 GB, 5.400 rpm.
Ati X1400 64 MB GDDR3
13.3" Widescreen (1280x768)
2.8 cm thick (old 12" PB was 3.0 cm)
4x DVD+/-RW, no upgrade
frontrow, duallink DVI and magsafe

No iSight, just too expensive (i think):p

I'd be surprised if they had the ExpressCard slot in them and I would also be surprised if the low end spec is not a Core Solo.

I'm waiting for the PowerBook 12" successor as well.
A 13.3" MacBook Pro with specs close to the current 15" MacBook Pro.

If Apple drop the smaller Pro machines I'll be pissed!

I agree with Josias for the most part - there will be no 12/13" MBP. :( A big mistake, IMO, but a macbook is all that's coming. My only disagreements are:
- the two models will be the same width
- they will have isight. I'd bet the house on it.
- no duallink DVI on any model
- superdrive standard on the core solo

I'm torn about the x1400... I really hope it's true, but I get the real feeling we're seeing integrated on both models, meaning no true 12" PB replacement. I hope like hell I'm wrong, but I don't think I am.

No for that one. I think it will come with 1.83 standard, because we still have the good ol' MacBook's with 1.5/1.6 Core Duos(I'm pretty sure it would be that speed), so I doubt they'd have the same speed as the consumer portable.

i really hope they dont try and get it down to under an inch or sumthing

all this apple garbage of having to have 1 inch labtops is annoying. the 12 inch pb is fine.

now update that powerbook :D

i wouldn't buy it if it didn't have the isight buil-in... that's one of the MANY new features that are really interesting me... (so is the intel chip, the magsafe, frontrow, airport, bluetooth.......)

Actually, iSight is quite cheap to add onto the computers, and I don't see apple releasing a computer+monitor combo without it. (Mac Pro and Mac Mini will be without it, of course, but I bet the new cinema displays will have 'em.

The chance of an 8x burner in the 12/13" mbp is zero

The whole reason they couldn't get it in the 15" mbp was because it hits the keyboard. and it's too thin. There's just no way they can cram it in an even smaller form factor.

I think it's pretty much a given that the smaller Macbook will have integrated graphics for the following reasons:
1. Takes less space
2. Consumes a LOT less power

I think the two variants will be very similar to the two Intel Mac Mini variants.

If they do put a dedicated GPU into the higher end Macbook then it will have 128mb of Vram. It's not like Apple will even include a dedicated card at all, instead we will be given a cheap notebook with Intel graphics.

Its pretty annoying that Apple is intentionally doing this to weaken the value of its products...

Slickdeals had been having $600 dell laptop deals on Core Duo notebooks with Intel graphics.. so you know Apple can toss a Dedicated GPU in there and still profit..

If they made a high-end small Macbook, I would definitely want one. There are a lot of people who want more portability AND more power. I agree they should start on the low end, but they need to be pretty upgradeable too.

I have the lowest end Macbook Pro 15" and I would trade it for a 13.3" Macbook with the exact same specs. Even if the graphics card and express cards are sacrificed, I'd still make the trade. I won't sacrifice the processor speed though. No lower than 1.83 ghz for me. There is definitely a demand for more power in a smaller laptop.

Maybe there won't be an iBook replacement, and there will just be a 13 in MBP!!??

Meaning there would be no consumer mac laptop? That's about as likely as Jobs doing the next Steve-Note in a lycra hot pink speed suit.

The 15"MBP doesn't have the burner 'cause the current burner wouldn't fit but I think that Apple wouldn't have wanted to drop it, so either the smaller drives they were expecting never came available or they commited to the chassis too early and missed the clash of componants.

If I'm right then the 15" will get a 8x drive when available (soon) or it won't but they'll have redesigned the chassis for the 12" MBP too accomodate it. Sony guys (who Apple poached prior to the jump to Intel remember) did it in the TX range so Apple can do it if they try.

I agree that there in any case will be a consumer laptop, but what if the french like pink?:p

To people to incompetent to understand: Next Apple Expo is in Paris, where many expect Steve to do another keynote!:p
