I’ve been right about this since the first OLED iPhone. Apple is a Samsung customer when it comes to display tech. The newest TabS7+ that’s Samsung’s top end tablet features a in display finger print reader and 120hz OLED display. This is the same Display next years iPad Pro 12” model will have yeah it’s gonna be 0.5” smaller but Apple will pitch the “thin and light“ features making it the same weight as this years 11” iPad Pro. The 11” model unfortunately will stay IPS. But it will be a huge deal next year when Apple unveils a 12.4” OLED 120hz IPad Pro.

Am I wrong ? I just hope Apple places a custom order so people can still use the 12.9” Magic Keyboard.

It is a rumor... for next year. 8 months to the possible release. I don’t see much benefit in waiting.
And IPS vs OLED is a personal preference.
IPS is better for the eyes, OLED uses PWM to control brightness.

Apple will never release an OLED iPad. They’ll go microLED.

Can’t say I understand the idea of waiting for next year, after that is released you can wait another year for something new again. I’m happy I get to use my Pro until next year instead.

Apple displays on Pros have rounded corners to begin with.

On top of that it’s well established that Apple buys stuff from Samsung among others.

It’s also well established that OLED panels are pretty hard to come by in the scale Apple requires.

OLED for a pro device meant for content creators? Rather unlikely in my opinion and probably as unsuccessful as your guess that the 2017 iPad would lose the headphone jack (it’s still on the model in 2020).

I love the deep black on my LG OLED TV. Netflix/Apple TV on my IPAD 12.9 pro looks horrible at night, it's all gray, esp. the black bars. I think I'll order the S7+ for a try.

OLED is not necessarily using PWM, like LG OLED TV's do not (mine is free from that), but iPhone display does. Not sure what type of that 12.4" is thou, but it is not something all OLED's have.

That being said, I definitely would take IPS for my computers and tablets rather than burn in prone OLED.

I am getting it in a few days, the S7+ 12,4 8GB RAM with OLED... and I can't wait... This will also keep me from buying a new ipad pro soon, and will probably allow me to wait patiently for a big jump, maybe ipados 15 with monitor support and an ipad pro with 8+ GB of RAM

Having used the S7+ for around a week its a nice device but I think I‘ve just about decided to keep my iPP 2018 for now; external screen support and having the webcam in the ”proper” place aside I’m struggling to see what’s better than the 2 year old Pro.

That screen is nice but in day to day usage (not media) I honestly don’t see the difference, if anything I prefer the ”taller: aspect ratio of the iPad 12.9 for work.

With current iPad Pro pricing, I can definitely understand waiting until the new model has features that are important to the buyer.

With my desired configuration costing $2K after tax and AC+, I’m personally waiting for 5G before pulling the trigger. Until then, my older model iPads serve me just fine.

Now if Apple were to make updates more regular and introduce an iPad upgrade program similar to iPhones, I’d jump on that. 😁

Well, they’ll go microLED when it’s ready.
Unless it is beaten by electroluminescent quantum dots. :)

There is a lot of interesting screen tech in development. I look forward to any emissive screen tech without the risk of burn-in. I love my OLED TV, but I wouldn’t want it on my iMac or iPad because burn-in would be too much of a risk, unless there is a major advance.
