Would a 12.5mm HDD fit inside the 2011 MacMini?

Plan on having a 128GB SSD and a 1TB HDD

12.5 seem to be cheaper is all.

thanks

oops. soz i only wanted 1 x 12.5mm drive as the SSD will be 9mm

There are spacers between the bottom drive (top when open) on both sides. I would guess a 12.5mm would fit. You may have to remove the foam spacers (only on a factor 2 drive configuration) and the rubber grommets from the WiFi grill as well as all the mounting grommets for "wiggle" room. It will be super tight, but there is space.

Yes.

I have an SSD in the primary slot, and a 12.5mm 1TB drive in the other slot. I used two hair elastics to cushion the 1TB drive from vibrating against bare metal (as I do not have the screw/grommets required) and all seems well.

It is a tight fit, however. The Airport grille required some force and flexing to get back in place, so my setup is not ideal.

1.5TB 2.5" drives are available too, although I am not sure if these are 12.5mm or 15mm.

do you have a link for a 1.5tb 2.5 inch drive?

For example, they are available at Newegg, plus here and here in the Seagate GoFlex external drive enclosures. But it appears they may actually be up to 15mm according to this forum post (quoted below.)

FYI, I just got the 1.5TB model in the mail and it is thicker than 12.5mm. It will not fit comfortably inside my 17" MBP unibody. I can get the case to screw shut, but even with the stabilizing screws on the hard drive removed, the case will not fully close there. I may leave it anyway, since the case at least screws shut, but this is not the elegant solution that the WD 1TB was.

FYI, 1TB 9.5mm thick drives (i.e. standard thickness), which have 2 platters instead of 3, are available. Samsung and Western Digital has them out.

Soon, 1.5TB 3-platter 12.5mm thick drives should come out, since we have the platter density to do it.
The 1.5TB Seagate Goflex drive that people posted about earlier is 14-15mm thick and 4 platters.
