I have noticed a weird difference in battery life between my 12.9” iPad Pro (2018) and 11” iPad Pro (2018). The latter was formerly my wife’s, but she decided she did not want it anymore and so I decided to use it to help me decide on which iPad size I would get in the future.

Using a shortcut found on the web (and using the log files under Analytics to verify manually), I was able to find the battery cycle and battery capacity of both iPads:
12.9“ 274 cycles and 94% battery capacity (bought in 2019)
11” 202 cycles and 86% battery capacity (bought launch 2018)

The issue is that I notice the 11” lasts longer than my 12.9” despite both sharing identical settings/apps/workflows. The only thing I could think could be causing the issue is that I use the Magic Trackpad keyboard (with key cap lights turned off) with the 12.9” and the smart Folio/keyboard with the 11”.

EDIT: I wanted to add that, what I mean by lasting longer, is that the percentage of battery left decreases quicker on the 12.9” than the 11”.

Could someone clarify why this is? Plus, why would the 11” have a reduced battery capacity, yet less charge cycles?

Seeing as I haven’t gotten response, I probably just have a weird situation lol. I think I am going to end up going to the 11” form factor regardless since overtime I felt the 12.9” was more difficult to use without a desk to support it. Hopefully the 2022 iPad batteries end up being even better than these!

The 13" has a larger Mini LED screen which will impact battery life.
I was referring to the 2018 models in this post, but I actually didn’t know that about the latest models. So that means if Mini LED comes to the 11” later this year, it will probably have worse battery life than the iPad Pros that came before it.

You're right about the Mini-LED, but the larger screen will still impact it.

Reports say that Mini-LED is more of a drain than regular LCD.
