Hi guys

recently purchased A new 12.9 inch iPad Pro. Now I’ve not used an iPad in some time so apologies if I’m expecting too much.

Does this seem a bit off? I had 100% charge on Sunday and it’s now Tuesday. Screen time is only 1 hour and 11 mins and my battery is at 25%. Seems like not a lot of screen time for 75% of the battery to be drained.

Any thoughts?

Updated to include both 24 hour and last 10 days usage.

I am not saying that the battery life is the greatest but what you have provided is screen time for the last 24 hours. However you said that the iPad was recharged on Sunday so I am betting that it the screen time is more than the 1 hour and 11 mins showed here.

Based on the graphics it seems that it started around 60 % and reached 25 % for the screen time of 1 hour and 11 mins. That is definitely not a good performance.

Also I do not see the message for high brightness level. Indeed only some indexing on iCloud could explain this. Did you setup this iPad as new or from a backup from another iPad?

Posted additional image of 10 day performance.

I set it up as a new iPad too

Did you restore from backup? Even with indexing, that seems like drastic battery consumption unless you were doing intensive gaming at high brightness. I’ve been on mine for 80 minutes, 50% auto brightness, music playing at 40% on the speakers while reading a book in iBooks and browsing and I’m at 91% for comparison. 12.9 2020 model.

Indexing starts and runs automatically. Please restart the device - we usually forget that even iPads are just computers :) Could work wonders and is the easiest thing to do.

Nope. Set up as a new iPad. I’m at less than 50% brightness too.

I am bit newbie when it comes to indexing and such stuff so accept my question. If he set up the iPad as new would there be still iCloud indexing? If yes would it be caused by using existing iCloud account or even for newly setup device with just registered iCloud account there would be indexing involved?

if it’s an established iCloud account, yes. Music, photos, iCloud Drive, bookmarks, contacts, etc are indexed on device for spotlight to make these things searchable.

Thanks for the clarification!

when I set it up i scanned the bubble thing from my iPhone - I’m assuming that this means I did in fact restore from an iCloud backup?

Other people have been having similar problems too. You aren't alone.

My battery was draining like mad too.

I did a Reset All Settings on the iPad and turned off Background App Refresh as I don’t feel it being off affects the iPad negatively or removes functionality I would notice.

Then I let the battery drain to 0% and turn off completely, waited 15 minutes and then charged the iPad Pro to 100% without using it. I am leaving Brightness at the default and trusting in Auto Brightness to adjust appropriately.

In 24 hours with 3 hours of screen on time I am at 78%, so I think I have fixed the problem, or at least made it much better.

So the issue is more based on standby time? This does seem to be an issue from a few others here.

my battery life is worse since the latest update but standby time been ok. Maybe the next IOS update will fix issues with drain.

I’m getting on average 7-8 hours screen time on my 12.9 2020 iPad Pro. I was getting a good 10 hours before but part of me put this down to the MK and draining a bit more than normal.

Hey guys

Bit of an update. After updating the software and resetting the iPad I’m seeing some improvements. I’ll monitor and post updates on here short;y.
Did you turn it off and on again, or really reset it and start from scratch with it? Either way all the best for you!

Would you guys say this seems better? Is there a way to see how much screen time I’ve had since the last full charge as opposed to last 24 hours? I thought it had improved a bit but now I’m not sure.

Looks good so far. Can you please check and tap on the days where your battery usage was close to 50 %? Let‘s see which apps are responsible :) Just for reference, if you play Penguin Isle (a game) on a high brightness level you can get a 100 % charged iPad down to 0 in about 3 hours because it‘s not optimized...

Just for reference #2: Battery life heavily depends on your usage.

Yeah, 27th of April looks pretty weird and certainly shouldn‘t behave that way. All other examples check out so far :) Hopefully you‘ve solved it now!

Perfect. Thank you for taking a look for me. I find the battery usage section quite confusing so I appreciate your input 😃

I don't like this section either. I have Android phone and I like their battery usage overview better because it shows me screen time since last battery charge. I could care any less about my screen time in the last 24 hours or on average. Like it is cool, but those are nice to have features. I want to know how much screen time I get on battery charge. I want to know which apps could potentially consume battery and I might consider not using them.

As it is I have to do research paper to understand what is going on. I bet that Apple did it this way so that we cannot spot issues with battery life easy. And even if they did not do because of this, this is how I interpret it as an end user. It is just there to discourage me to test the battery endurance of the device.

I agree. hopefully they bring something like that in.
