Not having any luck finding bands/extensions that will work.
Apple makes an extra large sport band in limited colors but I'm not sure if it would work for a 12 inch wrist or not.
You could always get something custom made like this: https://formfunctionform.com/product/button-stud-apple-watch-band/
[doublepost=1494603722][/doublepost]I forgot to mention that you can buy adapters like these and use them with almost any standard watch band as well: http://a.co/eiL8swi
Apple does make larger sport band for the Apple Watch. The only available color they have available is white. (Online only). The size is 145-260 MM.
12 inches= 305 mm.
I thought it was just white and black ... but my point was that the extra large size bands aren't available in all of the colors. Then even Apple's XL band would not be an appropriate fit based on the OP's wrist. But there are no limited colors, other than just white at the moment. At least from all the Sport bands I canvassed on their website that they have currently available.

etsy link (no endorsement of this vendor is implied)• Length: 11.8" (long strap), 3.5" (short strap)
• Combined Length: (with watch) ~ 16.8"
• Band Width: (without adapter) ~ 0.75"
I discovered only yesterday afternoon that I have a similar problem to pianoman88.
From what I gather it's very unfortunate that one has to pay for another strap if the original strap lengths provided are too small. On a related note, can anyone suggest what is the best method for getting an accurate measurement of one's wrist?
Ta View attachment 699665 pe measure works well. Having someone else measure it for you is easier, but you can do it yourself easy enough.
Edit. Meaning the soft cloth/plastic ones of course, not the metal ones.
How about a link bracelet and a bunch of the 6-link extension kits?
Thanks so much for that advice SDColorado on wrist measurement. I will see if I can dig out a cloth/plastic Tape measure as you suggested to measure my wrist size. I have tried with a metal Measure, but it was a little awkward and probably not that accurate.
The extra links are straight from Apple at $49 for six links. Thanks so much for that option Arran. I will take a look at it. Is this option available through Apple, or is it a third party option? Thanks again.
A metal one would be tough. If you can't find one of the plastic or cloth ones, and your wrist is less than 11" cut a thin strip of printer paper, mark it and then measure to the mark with the metal measure.

And +1 for looking for a custom option. Etsy doesn't have to be the only source, either. You can get strap adapters for the AW anywhere and use them to fit any traditional strap that uses regular old springbars.
(yet another benefit of Apple's strap attachment method that no other wristwatch manufacturer on the planet enjoys)
Very inventive SDColorado. Thanks! I was also thinking of possibly visiting the lady in my local clothes repair shop, (sorry, I can't think of the correct name for such a service at the moment), to ask politely if she would measure my wrist for me? I suspect it's a task more easily completed by two people rather than one.
You are on the right track, a tailor's measuring tape is exactly what I am referring to. It is definitely more easily completed with two people and I am sure they would be happy to do it for you. Just as most optometrists are willing tighten a screw on a pair of glasses. It isn't a difficult solo task though. Pin it with your wrist and you can get a measurement
Thanks very much, SDColarado. I really appreciate your contribution to my dilemma. Yes, "Tailor". You are quite right. Couldn't bring the name of the service to my mind yesterday. My Brain must have been muddled from the "complications" of Watch Straps and the increasing costs of finding a suitable size.
Rather than wrapping a tape measure of any kind around your wrist, it's much easier to use a piece of cord of some sort (you want flexible but not stretchy) - wrap it around your wrist (close against your wrist, but not tight), make a mark on it somehow where it overlaps, then lay it out flat and measure with a ruler or tape measure between the two marks. I've used paracord for this, you could also easily use a lightning cable (something we all have around anyway). Thanks so much for that advice SDColorado on wrist measurement.
