I'm not a fan of all these hard plastic cases. Those basically do nothing for drop shocks. I'd like to find something like the silicon case for the iphone. Actually I think it'd be even better if it wasn't a case but more like a Dbrand type skin made of silicon I can just stick on that adheres to the system. Not really worried about cooling with the M1. Any ideas? I want something that doesn't look like a Klingon warship strapped to my computer.

That doesn’t change physics and energy transfer.
Exactly. The plastic takes the impact and gives a little instead of transferring the impact forces driectly to the metal; some of the imact forces are directed around the laptop. My 15" dropped from waist height to the my cement driveway and hit the bottom front corner; not even a dent on the aluminum.

Youre welcome to disregard my first-hand experience if you want.

not only am I going to disregard it im going to ask why you felt the obligation to say anything in. The first place add if your one off experience somehow manages to trump my many past experiences and that of all the websites that review them as well? I come asking for a specific thing and instead of adding anything you useful you decided to speak in a manner to try and tell me my own observations didn’t happen and my post was irrelevant. You could have just not said anything but being mr armchair an you felt that internet obligation to say something stupid. You first mentioned “crumple zones” before editing your post like some thin plastic shell with little clips around a screen actually had these, which is dumb, and now you’re saying the plastic absorbs the impact. Well I’m a professional pilot and I fly all over the world regularly and I can tell you from my several times of experience that those $18 pieces of crap do not offer any protection worth having. I’ve had laptops and iPads both dented and damaged. But because you one time had one thing happen here you are.

Here’s a thought. Next time ****. If I asked for something and stated I didn’t want something else then take the hint I’m not asking for your opinion on the thing I don’t want. Use your head and even if you read all of what a person is asking and still can’t comperehend what they want; at least make what you state has substance and not be a random ******** with no info.

Heres a thought, by responding to me you turned a simple and ignorable one sentence response into paragraphs. Good luck finding a silicon skin which will provide better impact protection than a plastic hard-case, and it will bunch up over time as the adhesive begins to weaken.

I edited out crumple zones because I wasn't sure if you understood the theory behind them; which I'm still not sure you do. While hard cases don't have them by design, the space between the metal and plastic act like them.

Wait, there’s a 12” M1 MacBook now? Did I miss that?

In case you’re referring to the 13” machines, I haven’t come across silicone cases or covers but maybe something like a bookbook case will offer some decent protection? I know it’s a far shot but maybe it’s for you:
