12" or 15"? iBook G4 or Powerbook G4?

Hey,

I've been a mac user all my life. Switched to PC 3 years ago because of lack of games and other reasons.

Anyways, now I'm in the mood to switch back to Apple. I'd have to sell my current computer (PC) to be able to fund the purchase of the laptop.

I'm wondering what's right for me though. A 12" or 15"? An iBook G4 or a Powerbook G4?

On a normal day I usually just surf, email, and instant messager. When I have work to do or if I'm feeling a bit bored, I do Photoshop, Indesign, Dreamweaver, Watch movies, and play games (Battlefield, Halo, Doom3, UT2k4, Q3a, CS). Most of those games are available for mac except CS. Doom3 is supposed to be carbonized soon I suppose. Not sure if HL2 is gonna be ported. But gaming is a fairly key fact about my lifestyle. I'm very organized so iCal, iPhoto, and iTunes will be very convenient. :)

I've been using a 17" LCD on my PC running at 1280x1024 and boy do I love it! So take that into account.

Anyways, what should I get?

i think if you want to game stick with a pc, and get a cheap ibook or emac to do ur mac stuff

Wow, interesting comment. I mean, how's the performance on Halo with the 1.5?

Anyone else?
 
I play Halo on a 1.33 and it works great. I can't imagine it not working well on a 1.5 I have a PB, but I love the iBook. A 14'' iBook with Superdrive is a very good machine and I would recommend it entirely. With the right amount of ram, I'd say that it will be the perfect machine for you.
 
Games need atleast a powerbook

I have been using both of them. if you even want to play UT at resolutions say even 800x600 you need powerbook, PERIOD. and not to mention the ram. my powerbook was able to run UT2004 on my sony 21" CRT (running at 1280x1024). my ibook was not even able to run on its own screen with out much lag. I think powerbook is a much better machine worth the price differential. Only problem being the heat thing. you would not want to work with it on your lap. As the previous post states if you want to play games and do simple mac stuff or enjoy a mac then keep you PC and get a refurb mac. If you are adamnt on getting a mac (cheap ibook or so) then spend 100-150$ on a gaming console for games!

i didnt say it was poor; i just said it wasnt the best machine for the job; normally when i play games i like to run the hgiest of everything, and even a 1.5 would struggle witht e higest of all settings when it comes to the newer fgames

I never said it was poor either. But running the highest settings does change a whole lot...
