OK, So when I use an external display with the 12" pb closed the fan runs the entire time. It's not annoying at all or anything, but I was just wondering if this was ok and not hurting anything?

Nope, the 12" PowerBook (unlike the iBook) was designed to run in such a fashion but requires the fan to move the heat that would've otherwise radiated from the keyboard/palm rest area of the case.
It'll be fine.
