I bought a 12"pb back in August '05 and have begun to notice that the plastic and metal on the right hand corner (where my wrists rest as i type) is beginning to prop up. is this cause for concern?

I had a similar issues. Document it as it grows. It is caused by heat, which slowly separates the metal and plastic. Mine had the issue, too. I got it fixed after a LONG talk with the Apple Care people, and the one thing that saved me (I think) was that I had pictures. I was also really nice. That helps a lot.
Takes pictures NOW and keep taking them. It will get worse. It sucks...
but it can be fixed.

but it can be fixed.Same here. My 12" PB has the notorious wobble and warping of the edges of the bottom case coming out and no longer matching the seam of the top case (in numerous places). It has never been bumped or dropped and has spent much of it's life inside a padded sleeve. I'd ike to add that MY PB's the last rev. 12." You'd think that Apple would strengthen the aluminum in the bottom case to prevent heat warping. Not the case I guess.
I've had the warped bottom case replace under AppleCare last summer. Guess what? New one warps the same.

It happened on mine, the thing to do is to bend it back.
If you place the powerbook on a desk (Screen open) with the worst offending corner over the edge. Gently but with reasonable force push/pull the corner down.
It sounds dangerous but its fixed it for my old pb 12in . I have to do it every so often but it takes only 10seconds to do.
Much easier and better than getting it replaced with something that will do it all over again.

Don't assume yours has this issue right away based on forums alone. Lots of real world experience out there says that your PowerBook is probably fine. (Unless it looks like mine, that is)

They have absolutly no way of finding out that you have bent it back. As long as you don't over force it , you will do no damage anyway.

The metal is stressed when it is bent the first time. Re-bending it leaves telltale stress marks that if you look closely, can be seen. Try bending some Aluminum foil, then bending it back. Look for some 'stretching' of the metal. Now imagine that with something dozens of times thicker.
Apple isn't stupid. See if you can get it fixed through them first, then resort to doing it yourself. But I have another picture I didn't post that shows how the metal front was bulging outwards, where you couldn't just roll it into place again. It deals with the inside guts, not the outside view.

heh. Mine looks like that, too. But mine's from being dropped. It's dented in on the other side. (In on the right-front, out on the left-front.)
Long story short: I caught someone robbing my car, and chased after him. I dropped my laptop bag when I tried to tackle him, and as my bag wasn't fully zippered yet, (I was putting my laptop away as I was approaching my car,) the PowerBook fell out and tumbled.
But, he only made out with $2.75 from my car in change, and he dropped his backpack (with his ID in it!) when I tackled him. He ended up getting away, though. (Didn't find out that he dropped his backpack until the chase was over, when a friend picked it up and asked why I had so much Pepsi in my pack, knowing I don't like Pepsi...)

Yours must be different as there are no marks on mine
Quite a few other people have used the method I described without any issues.
You can get it fixed through them but it will take weeks and you won't have a laptop during that period I know I asked.
PB Aluminium 15' Slight Warp
I have a PB 15' and the centre portion is starting to pop out as well...funny how the heat isn't so bad but it warps anyway. Let's hope apple will do something about it for their MacBookPros.
