The past couple days I've had people report to me that when they try to call me, it either doesn't ring or rings once and goes straight to voicemail (as if my phone is turned off or has DnD on). I have verified that DnD is off, my phone is not set to mute, and that there is no reason for the call to not be going through. Most of the time, I don't even get a notification of a missed call. I nearly missed a package delivery yesterday because my building's callbox didn't ring my phone at all - I only knew to rush down to open the door because I got a sudden notification that I had a missed call from my door.

My carrier is Verizon, this issue initially happened with the WiFi calling feature turned on but with some further testing today it seems to intermittently happen with wifi calling turned off as well. The status of the wifi connection does not seem to affect anything.

Verizon says there are no issues on their end and is pointing the finger at apple/the phone. I'm wondering if this bug is related to iOS and the messages notification bug (which I also have).

I've already tried resetting network settings and messing around with other cellular settings. I can't be sure about this, but toggling airplane mode and doing an SMC/hard reset fixed the issue yesterday.

This is clearly a major problem, as the 2 most essential features of a $1500+ device are not functioning properly. How can I be sure I am not missing important calls? I'm pretty disappointed with the software here, as much as I love the hardware itself. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Check out this thread.

I had the same problem when I got my iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max. Turning on/off Airplane Mode fixed the problem temporarily (usually came back after a handful of hours).

While not everyone had the same experience to fix - some fixed by getting a new SIM card and some fixed by turning off WiFi calling on other devices.

For me - what fixed it both times was switching to another 5G SIM card. I had the experience of getting a 12 Pro - using that, having the problem, going to Verizon to get a new 5G SIM card (solved it), then getting a 12 Pro Max - having the same problem again - and switching to the 12 Pro’s SIM card (fixing the problem).

I’m not certain if this is a Verizon or iPhone problem.

Went and got a new SIM from verizon after seeing your reply - hopefully that solves the issue.
Yeah let us know.

This helped a lot of the users in the other thread. A few had to turn off "Wifi calling on other devices" for it to work for them.

Those two options seemed to fix most of the issues.

Tested this morning using my google voice number - went straight to voicemail again :( I don't think it worked.

However this time I did get a notification of a voicemail being left, but no notification of a missed call. What the hell do I do now??

Did you try the Wifi calling on other devices ?

Settings > Cellular > Wifi calling :

Also try turning off wifi calling entirely.

Yeah I turned everything off, even removed the call filter feature from my verizon account and deleted its app. I've also turned off all the iOS call filtering features I can think of.

This is kind of ridiculous, because I know if I call apple they'll either have me do the pointless steps of resetting my phone or some other thing which wont solve the actual issue but greatly inconvenience me. If I call verizon they'll tell me nothings wrong with my phone/account and direct me back to apple.

My gut feeling here is that this is an iOS issue, because I can confirm that toggling airplane mode fixes the issue temporarily.

Wow what a bummer. Wish I could help. Yeah toggling airplane mode worked for me until I got a new sim. Switching back to the old one fixed my 12 pro Max too. :/. Maybe try to return phone because of extended holiday return and get a replacement?

Hope you get this fixed. Weird how this gets resolved differently for some people and not others.

I had this issue of calls going straight to voicemail with no ringing/ notifications, it turns out I had 'Silence Unknown numbers' in the phone settings. I toggled it off and it was fine from then on.
