Why does this always happen? About half the time. Sometimes with regular texts, very very often with photos. I am absolutely tired of this and it makes me curious about switching to an S23 Ultra. I’m paying $1200 for a phone, it should be able to send text messages.

Cellular and wifi. It doesn’t matter, it barely works regardless.

This off or something? Multiple generations of phones and you have a problem no one else does? Something is wrong.

Make sure the digits and format of your contact are set correctly. That’s the most common problem.

Talk to support. Your issue is not the phone. Some other setting must be messed up.

Isn’t this normal? I always thought it’s not possible to send image as a text message. Isn’t that why people use WhatsApp and similar apps for cross platform communication.

It'll be sent as an MMS unless that option has been disabled.

People use other messaging apps because it other benefits like Mini Programs, voice messages, integrated social media, and built-in pay functions.

Also mainly for higher quality photos or videos because the carrier compress the **** out of what you’re sending…

You may want to talk with Apple Support as they are the subject matter expert of the product to get the right answer for your problem solution. Good luck! 😊
Apple likely won't be able to help.

The issue is that you're sending MMS messages... which REQUIRE a cellular connection. Doesn't matter how strong your Wi-Fi is, MMS is going to ignore it. If you're sending images, you NEED a good quality mobile cellular signal. Talk to your carrier, or switch to one with a better signal in your area.

I have MMS off all the time on my phone because my provider (EE) charges £0.60 per MMS and there's no way I want to get charged for accidentally sending an MMS! I see exactly the same if it does try and send an MMS so it's worth checking to make sure you have it turned on in settings (and also make sure you're not going to get charged a fortune to send them)

Android has the same issue whether receiving or sending MMS so you won’t entire escape it. For iPhone, you don’t need to fiddle with APN settings.

As everyone had mentioned, you’ll need to make sure you have both enabled MMS Messaging and active cellular data as it goes through the carrier than iMessage.
  • Settings>Messages>MMS Messaging>On
  • Settings>Cellular>Turn On This Line>On (at least one active eSIM mobile data)
  • Settings>Cellular>Cellular Data>On
You can also do a network reset where it will reset cellular and WiFi (removing all known WiFi networks) by going to Settings>General>Transfer or Reset>Reset>Reset Network Settings

Another solution is to enable WiFi Calling by going to Settings>Cellular>Wi-Fi Calling>On, this should route calls and texts over WiFi than through cellular network.

If all fails, it’s time to reach out to your carrier for assistance.
