I updated to 13.1 today, from 13.1 beta 4. I did a backup, updated, erased all content, restored from backup. Everything works great except for CarPlay now. When I plug in my iPhone 11, most of the time it will not connect to CarPlay. The phone shows it is powered and charging, but not projecting. I have to delete the vehicle from CarPlay, delete from my car and then reestablish the setup, and it still will not connect. Then other times, I start the car, connect and it takes a few minutes before it will suddenly connect. Any suggestions? Thx

I finally figured out what happen. When I received my new iPhone 11, I decided to download the Verizon VPN to protect me from unknown Wi-Fi networks. Apparently that VPN was stopping CarPlay from connecting most of the time. I deleted the VPN and now CarPlay connects flawlessly.

CarPlay and VPNs have been a known issue for some time now, however I have noticed that since iOS 13, I no longer have any issues with CarPlay while connected to a VPN.

I do not have Verizon's VPN, but I am having the same issue. Won't connect most of the time. Sometimes I'll be driving for 10 minutes and it suddenly connects. And I plug my phone in, so no chance of a bluetooth or wireless issue really.

Any thoughts?

Any thoughts?

There have been complaints for years that when connected to a VPN while using CarPlay, the audio will become muted or the playback will stop as the phone switches between cell towers. I myself experienced it using iVPN under iOS 12 (when I first started using a VPN), but since moving to iOS 13, I have not had any issues. I can have iVPN up and CarPlay playback works fine - even in areas where it used to reliably experience the glitching under iOS 12.

Is the phone on a VPN when you plug it into your car? And I don't have issues with it cutting out. It won't even see the phone. Zero connection at all. I just use it for GPS. Don't play audio thru it. But the GPS doesn't cut out when it actually connects.
I've had phone calls cut in and out, but I always assume that's cell tower related.

Interesting. Well I've been using Carplay for over 2 years now. First time I've ever had a problem. So weird to me. No issues until 11pro. Hoping others have a solution. Thanks.
