Hey there. Had a spill on my MacBook Pro keyboard. It’s no longer working. I’d like to replace it myself, but I’m not sure what to do. Should I replace just the keyboard or the whole topcase with the battery and everything? And what will happen with the Touch ID? Will I have to keep the one particular to this machine for it to keep working?

" Should I replace just the keyboard or the whole topcase with the battery and everything?"

You CAN'T replace "just the keyboard" on MBP's with the butterfly keyboard.
The entire top case needs to be replaced.
Where are you going to GET one?
And if you find one, what is it going to cost?

A repair by Apple will probably run $750-800.

I seriously suggest you forget about this one, and start looking for a replacement. That money will be much more well-spent...

Not helpful and incorrect. On ignore.

It was all correct. The keyboard is not a serviceable part - it requires topcase replacement. The service cost will exceed the current value of the machine, and with how unreliable these keyboards are, I would not trust used parts.

Consider a used M1 13" model if you still like the form factor, or an M2 if you'd like to buy new.
