Hi All, I guess this has probably already been covered but I thought I'd put it out there...

I was in my local apple store buying some stuff and I asked the guy behind the counter what the deal was with 13" MBP's... He said that apple where developing one and that it was not too far away, but not that close either. He said that it was likely to have a solid-state/flash-type HD around 60/80gb. I thought that sounded pretty flippin' sweet.

Anyone heard anything else?

erm, if Apple is working on one some random worker at a retail store isn't going to know **** about it.

He's either ********ting you or you're ********ting us (considering you just joined).

Let's Assume...

Eerrm, he was and he did...

Let's then assume that you were Casually Talking and it came up as "a likely Option" for Upcoming machines.... an APPLE Employee Locally would not have any "concrete" info on such things...

However, it would be on the new Christmas Wish List for sure as Flash Drives are getting Bigger and Cheaper all the time!! That would be an obvious next step.. at least I think so....

Cool, well what-ev's, I'm just keen for a baby MBP to replace my baby powerbook, so I'm happy cling to any bit of hope:)

No offense, but the guy who told you this is a retard. There's no way a 60-80GB Flash drive would work out at the current technological stage it's in. For starters, it's too costly, and manufacturers are still looking at how to get around the 1 million write-cycle limit.

Furthermore, Apple Store employees know very little. Even the "genius" has been known to be quite wrong at times.

Finally, did you ask him how he knew this? Don't you think there would have been more buzz about this if a part-time, bottom-of-the-totem pole guy knows about it? He's not exactly one of Apple's marketers, designers, or executives. Before getting your hopes up, you should have thought about this.

Now, I too am hoping a smaller notebook comes along. However, if we expect it to have Flash, it will be at least 18 months away. Flash needs to come down in price and address the write limit in order to work well for computers. The only reason it works well for thumb drives, iPods, PDAs, etc, is because you don't write new stuff on those every 30 seconds.

Heheh, you guys all take things pretty seriously... Obviously I should get a better source:)

Well...many of us would like a product like this (smaller though, maybe 12 or 11"). You got our hopes up with your thead title, and then dashed them with "an Apple Store guy told me..."

He's probably right though...

It's perfectly likely that apple will make a product like this...or at least similar in some way. and "not to close but not too far away" means absolutely nothing.

Don't count on getting one in your hands in the next year.

I desperately want this to come out so badly I will pay $3000 for it if it came out right now.

PS-Only if it came with a $1500 education discount

Yeah, I've heard rumours of the 13" MBP since the 15" and 17" MBPs were first released.

What this salesperson told you was likely true, but only because it's inevitable, and so obvious. However, when this will happen is anyone's guess. I think within the next 12 months, but that's a guess.
