What do y'all think of $1300 for a new "stock" white 24'' iMac:

2.16 C2D
1MB RAM (512X2)
250GB HD
NVIDIA GeForce 7300GT with 128MB GDDR3 SDRAM

Is this hitting a sweet-spot for price/performance? Or is $1300 "too much" for an "old" machine?

The new aluminum iMac 20" is only $1200 with the same specs except for a 2.0GHz cpu. Why do you want the old one?
I am guessing the bigger and higher resolution screen might be the reason.

its the 24''

yes, i'm interested in this model for the screen-size, HD resolution, and discounted price.

wasn't planning on getting an imac now, but I think this deal might push me over the edge...(and hold me over past the ALU rev. B's, down the road)

1MB RAM is going to run really slow, I suggest getting 2x1GB :p

$1300 shipped for new? That's a fair deal.

Dammit - it sucks how the UK gets stiffed on prices. I was considering getting the same iMac, but it's still the equivalent of $1900 at the place I work. And since it's clearance merchandise, I don't get employee discount on it. If it had a 7600GT graphics card I'd get it, but I gather the 7300GT is kind of crappy, though not as bad as the Intel GMA card.

Apple's refurb webstore is no better - it's the same price for a refurb, and the refurb Mac Mini they do is the same price new as the 2.0 new Minis. It seems like $ - £ as far as the UK's concerned.

new machine for $1300 + tax :)

definitely seems fair (I think the components themselves would run roughly that, esp. with a 24'' display).

Even comparing to the price of a 24" refurb its still cheaper with tax.

Though a 2.4GHz 20" iMac looks like a good deal too but that's with educ. discount.

Nice price, and $150 less than the apple refurb price. Where did you find this at???

Does anyone know the chances of finding a white 24" with the 7600gt graphics card? If so, where?

I'd guess your best bet would be E-Bay. But I wouldn't spend that kind of cash on E-Bay. I was looking for a machine with that card too, but drew a blank everywhere. It seems like the only place that ever sold that spec machine was the Apple online store, and even then it was done to order.

Buy from an eBay seller who has sold Macs before and who has $2000 buyer protection when paid through PayPal. FYI, there's one on offer now, maxed out with 750GB HD, 2.33GHz CPU, NVIDIA 7600GT, 2 GB RAM for $1850, but the auction ends in 45 minutes.

Personally, I think $1300 is a good price for the specs you listed.

I bought that exact model only last year, refurbished for $1900 after tax and shipping (also included a wireless MM). I think it's a wonderful deal. One thing I've learned around here is that Macs have wonderful resale values. I'd get it, unless you think the aluminum iMacs look better.

...which you clearly do not...

I was worried about the glossy screen of the new iMac and about its relative lack of upgraded hardware considering it had not been updated for a year, so I decided to buy a used 24" white iMac to tide me over until Apple releases something that REALLY blows me away, because quite frankly, the new iMacs do not.

Well what kind of hardware did you want put in it?

Apple put the latest hardware in the new iMacs available..

You know Apple does not make the hardware... They just use it...

This is a "close-out" price at a local computer store.

A pimped out 24'' iMac might find it's way to the refurb que, but there's obviously no way to know what you're going to get until you get it.

Ok, think I'm gonna pull the trigger on this one.

Since no one attempted to dissuade me, I'm gonna blame you (collectively) if this is a bad purhcase ;)

I actually just got the same $1399 white iMac referenced earlier in the thread, and I'm super happy with it. :) I never realized how much a big screen can make a computer so much more fun to use. :D
