14" 1.42Ghz 512mb ram iBook G4 Ubuntu no recovery discs

I received an iBook G4 from a friend when he got a new MacBook. Currently it has Ubuntu on it and I don't have the recovery CDs. Is it possible to recover it with some special options or is Ubuntu likely overwritten any recovery options it may have had on it's internal drive?

Also I've seen many threads on here about Tiger/Leopard and even a PPC enhanced leopard. Is there a good method to get any of these? I read ebay and retail disks, but would there be an OEM that would work as well for this ibook?

I'm not sure about the better Leo. I'm interested to see how it works as well.

Thanks for the quick reply. I might play around with the free Linux options for a while, but was definitely curious if it would be worth making this an OSX machine. Currently I don't have any OSX machines in the house and figured a free iBook might not be a bad way to get one, now it looks like it's dependent on getting a cheap OSX tiger or leopard install.

Well that should cost no more than $125 then(Leopard) or $50(Tiger). I just received a retail Tiger disc for $43 from ebay and it works great. Now if I just happened to have a firewire 400/400 cable then I'll be able to set up my G5 iMac properly.

I would reccomend Tiger, unless you upgrade the RAM.
