14.2 - iPhone 12 Pro Max Camera Shutter sound faint/almost muted

I did finally find one other person mentioning this, but in Reddit. ( Apple store employee yesterday had no known answers as well )

Got the 12 PM on Friday, quickly updated to 14.2. I immediately noticed when taking a regular photo - the shutter sound is extremely faint, almost non-existent. Yet when I take Portrait mode shots, you can clearly hear the shutter sound.

Almost the same in video also. Regular video, hit record and the "ding" is quieter compared to hitting record in Slo-Mo and Time lapse.

I've checked Sound/Haptics, it doesn't change anything.
**Also I DO have "Live Photo" turned off. (I realize there is no camera shutter sound when that is on)

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this in 12 Pro, Pro Max..just under 14.2 in general? I had the XSmax with 14.2 installed and I didn't that have that odd issue. Just odd.

*It's not causing any problems with photos, the quality.
Other than this bizarre feature/bug(??), the phone works great.

I also have the 12 Pro Max and just tried this. It sounded diminished but audible. I’m indoors and it might not have been heard outdoors. I tried using the side buttons to see if I could increase it. That had no effect. But when I went to Sound and Haptics and used the slider, it definitely increased all the sounds. I had previously thought the lock sound was very faint and had tried the side buttons to no effect. But the slider increased that as well. I’m not sure why the side buttons don’t affect this but it may be set up that way. Anyway the slider works fine for this. I’m also on 14.2.

It's strange. I was messing with the "Sound & Haptics" also, I also noticed how the Power button "click" volume changes on me also.

Didn't really change the shutter sounds on both video and photo.

Screen recording does somewhat capture what I'm hearing, or not hearing. It just seems completely new to me right now on this phone. I just want to make sure it's not a phone problem. I didn't notice this issue on 14.2 on my old XSmax. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Happened to me as well.
For me the sound was controllable with the normal audio/music sound(volume buttons), and not system sound in preferences.

Sound and Haptics slider had no effect, volume up/down, no effect. Put on an audio source to play and raised the volume, closed the app, went to camera and shutter sound was now increased to old levels, if not now actually louder.

In settings you can turn off so that the haptics, ringer/alarms, and other sounds cannot be controlled with the side volume buttons. This way I dont accidentally lower the volume for the alarm clock. So for me the alarm / ringer etc. is always at a fixed volume level that can only be adjusted in settings.

I have the same problem also, with my new 12 pro max the shutter sound is really loud when im in portrait mode, but when taking normal photos the sound is much lower. Hope they fix this, I don't wan't the shutter click to be this loud in portrait mode.

Same here on the ihone 12 with IOS 14.2.1
Less sound with the photo shutter.
With portret the sound is loud again.

Lock sound is also not the same volume as it was..
Anyone the same ?

The locksound is very muted.
When I start typing on the keyboard the sound is muted when starting typing but becomes louder when typing ending up in louder sound when locking the device.

The next unlock brings me back to muted sounds again.
I think it happened after 14.2.1

Any thoughts ?

And you have checked settings to see if sound for keyboard typing is turned on?
