There is, as always, the referenced battery correction that we are told happens over a few days after the installation of a new OS. I've never been entirely convinced that's the whole truth - or whether over a few days we get used to the drain and just stop complaining. 🤨

But since the install of 14.5 on my XR (on the day of release and after several hard reboots to allow the OS get it's ducks in a row since), all I know is that the drain seems most obvious with this install. From a 100% overnight charge, it dropped to 78% within 2 hours of being off charger, and, after 8 hours (3 hours of actual accumulated screen time, apparently), I'm down to 33%.

Settings > Battery tells me the worst offender by a wide, wide margin is Facebook - I guess I'll just need to ensure I close it down completely between uses.

But even so, the drain on the battery (when no other changes to Settings have occurred) seems excessive and suggests something not quite right with the OS itself. We'll see what a few more days bring - but I guess it means dragging around a backup battery pack, just in case.

Anyone else seeing this on normal use, or seen it come back from the abyss sooner than mine?

I have a XR and have absolutely no drain, the battery time even increased a little in my opinion.

I don’t use any social media apps, so it seems like it’s really the Facebook app. Maybe they need to run the app permanently to track you, now that Apple broke their only business model.

The battery recalibration happens only on the 11, other models were not affected.

I hit safari on opening the cover this am and the battery dropped 2% in the first 3 minuutes.
Alarmed, I watched the clock and the battery icons.
After that initial 2% drop, it took 20 mins to drop 1%.
so we're ok here maybe.
iPad pro 12.9 gen 2 on iOS 14.5.

Sorry. When I said 'battery correction', I meant that there's the oft-reported sudden battery drain after the installation of an update to the OS - that users suggest eventually works itself out - not the battery recalibration done on 11 and above over the course of what can be a couple of weeks, resulting in some fixes and guidance on the battery's health.

Who knows what the boffins at Facebook (and, for that matter, Apple) have in mind when it comes to how their products work, and how it affects the battery? Apple has been stung once with battery maintenance and OS operation issues - its hard to imagine they'd go for another try. But hey, the have the bank account to cover such inconveniences. Facebook meanwhile has nothing to lose. It's not as if users will quit the app en masse.

I just hope the battery issue here sorts itself out - or I guess we wait for 14.6 and see if that does anything.

I managed to get some improvement in my 6S battery life by deleting all the widgets from my Home Screen, FWIW.

The Music app is hammering my 12 Pro Max battery since 14.5. It has eaten half my capacity today. Yikes.

Battery life in general hasn’t been as good as 14.4 on my 12 pro max running 14.5, a lot of people are saying the same thing.

Battery life is down by a good 2-3 hours.

Doubt apple will fix anything.

This is the first iOS update that has impacted battery life on my 12 Pro Max. Safari seems to be the main offender and the phone runs hot on certain sites (nfl.com make it very warm to the touch).
I’m seeing the exact same thing on my XS. As a test, I downloaded Microsoft Edge and have been browsing with it, including sites that really heat things up (Macrumors being a big one for me) and so far my phone is cool as a cucumber. So at least for me, Safari was definitely the problem child. Are you using any ad blocker add ons in Safari?

If you experiencing battery drain after 14.5
Try running your battery down to 10% before you charge it. This works sometimes

No ad blockers, and yup, Macrumors heats mine up a good bit too. I went through my settings and toggled things on and off but nothing seems to help.

I downloaded Opera and it wasn’t much better. I’ll try MS Edge.

I have Adblock Plus installed for Safari, I just remembered it when I asked you about it. But if it’s happening for you without any blockers, then it probably isn’t related, though I suppose I could try disabling it and see if it makes any difference.

Granted, I haven’t used my phone as heavily today as I did yesterday, I haven’t used Safari at all and I’m still at 63% battery at 5:53 PM, whereas I hit 20% sometime around 6 last night and I haven’t had it get warm either.

Try reset all settings. Mine has been like that, now it’s just flat line in battery monitor when not in use.

My 2018 11 inch iPad Pro battery is awful since 14.5. It drain like crazy in standby. this morning it was at 57% and now its at 42% and I didn’t use it today.

Facebook is the "worst offender" on many fronts... but yeah, my wife says that it kills her battery. I have no social media apps on my phone, and my battery life is awesome... don't think I've gone to bed at night with less than 50% of the battery charge remaining.

Apart from specific apps, I am sure that part of the issue is that reindexing work that happens with each release of iOS... but, I have no issues with battery.

Something is definitely wrong. This happened overnight without any usage. Background usage lists music and translation. Both a minute max per hour. Also find my without any percentage of minute indication.

Mine did this insane 100% to 0% in about 7 hours a few months ago. No rhyme or reason, it showed "Camera" AUDIO was on...for "6 min.," yet that app/camera was never on. No idea and taking it to Apple they told me battery was normal. (eye roll) I erased the phone and started from scratch, I haven't had that crazy drain since...Ranging from 0% to as high as 10% overnight. Erratic if you ask me.

Also the 12 Pro Max was at 99% health 2 months ago...today its at 92%! (Another 1% drop after installing the update a few days ago)

I've changed everything the way I charge the phone, but it hasn't stopped the fast decline in the battery health.

Weird for the battery life of my iPhone XR since 14.5— it stays 100% for long time and then starts to drop, and my iPhone automatically shuts down when the battery life is near 20%.

I have that issue too. The problem is HomeKit!!! When I switched off family members from home they stopped having a problem
Interesting! But one of the very first things I uninstalled on my XR. Elements of it are no doubt lurking in the OS, but as an app, its not something that shows up.
