I've been trying to find a direct comparison between the two but I've not been able to. I mainly want to know if the battery life difference between the 14 and 16 core M4 Max in the 14" chassis is significant, since apple doesn't give you the option to add more ram in the 14 core Max (which would've been ideal for me).

I'm thinking the difference is probably 3-12% less battery life depending on the task.

I currently have the 14 core 36gb version, I have until Jan 8 to return it (because of holiday return). I don't mind the thermals/noise of the 14 core version, and the battery life is pretty good for me, but I'd like to know roughly how much battery life I'd be trading for the increased ram. I'm able to make do with 36gb, I get into yellow memory pressure when I do my work and it still works well but I'd like to keep the machine for 4-5 years so more headroom would be nice. I know I could downgrade to a 48GB M4 pro but I use the GPU cores a lot so I'd like to stick with either of the Max chips.
