I would love to get rid of that buzzing next to my right ear, although I would loathe not to solve the problem and be a few grands lighter.

Anyone with a similar setup could commment on the noise level ? Both monitors are connected to the mac through a caldigit-pro.

Sounds like this is coil whine? Do you know which component is actually generating it? I’ve never heard coil whine from my Apple laptops before, and my 16” M1 isn’t an exception.

I have heard coil whine with a CalDigit TS3 Plus dock, so it might not be the laptop itself.

I do appreciate your candor, this is no coil whine but simply my Intel i9 trying to catch some air :).

Wanted to know whether this situation usually sees fans ramping up on the newer apple silicon machines.

It sounded like you had the M1 Pro and had a noise issue. Sorry about that.

I don't have the 14", but both models will ramp up the fans less often than the Intel versions. I'll let someone with a 14" say how that one behaves and how audible it gets since it will be a bit different than the 16". I've yet to push the fans past "quiet whisper" with any workflow that would push an i7 16" MBP to max fan (still use one of those for work).

Thank you for your feedback, might make the leap and buy the 16' then.

I don't have two 4k, but I have one 4k and a 1440p connected through a OWC thunderbolt dock. Simply having the monitors connected does not cause the fans to spin at all, unlike my previous 2015 15". Even when the fans on my 14" turn on to ~2500rpm+, I still don't really hear them. I don't have a silent room, but it's not usually especially loud either.
