At least once a day my USB-C and Magsafe ports will stop working when my MBP either goes to sleep or wakes up. I can only confirm this happens on battery, not while plugged in constantly since it doesn't sleep when plugged in. The workaround is to just reboot, but that's not a great solution. Since a reboot temporarily resolves the issue, I assume it's a driver or service not restarting properly on wake.

Any tips to troubleshoot this? I've checked the Console system.logs and see nothing obvious. I took a few random guesses at services that were running in launchctl and tried reloading them (com.apple.usbd, com.apple.usbmuxd) but they didn't resolve the issue, only rebooting would.

Are there any better places or logs to investigate? I was not smart and spent almost $3k on this and didn't get Apple Care, and no longer qualify to buy it. I also can't just send it off to Apple for days or weeks as it's my work/daily laptop.

Welcome to the club!

There are at least two threads about this:

To put it mildy, we are a few that now very patiently waiting for an update that fixes this 😎

At least you likely don't need to worry as it seems software related since it happened after 12.4.
I feel so privileged to already be a club member! Will just wait patiently and reboot frequently until fixed :/

IMHO:
  • Boot into Safe Mode > then shut it down and turn it back on and then boot into regular mode and see if that fixes it.
I tried this yesterday and thought it might work, but just had to reboot again. Thanks for the glimmer of hope
