I have a base model 14 MBP and started a Facetime call with 100% battery. After exactly an hour, my battery had drained to 65% which I felt was a bit low. On the other hand, that same Facetime call after an hour would only drain to 80-83% on my 2020 iPad Pro 11 inch.

I realize the MBP is driving more pixels but does that performance seem substandard or normal?

I don't know but another post talked about how facetime caused their m1 pro laptop to get hot.
Thanks for bringing that up--I forgot to mention that. My MBP got very hot though the fans never kicked in. I feel like I'm using an intel machine from 2015 when I use Facetime.

I did a 40 minute FaceTime call tonight on my 16" M1. It stayed completely cool and the battery only dropped 1%.

Wow, that's excellent. I know the 16 has a better battery but that is a huge difference. Is your machine a base model or upgraded?

Its the upgraded M1 Max model. I saw your post and wanted to chime in because on my intel i9 it would get hot and crush the battery for that long of a FaceTime call. The new 16” stayed totally cool and the battery barely budged.

Same issue here with base model Macbook M1 Pro, hot like intel and battery drain was like battery drains 1% per minute. Hope 12.1 fixes this.

I video called on FaceTime with my 14" M1 Max, and its the only daily app that heated up the mahcine, drained the battery so fast, and triggered the fan to turn on to about 2000 rpm.
The new apps and OS is so buggy.
