Are there any downsides, apart from cost, in choosing the M1 Max in the 14" MBP over the M1 Pro?

I am considering a 32GB MBP14 and the $200 upgrade to M1 Max is tempting, considering it will give me 24 vs 16 GPU cores, double the memory bandwidth and the extra ProRes encoder - all features that I would use for video editing.

But are there any downsides that I haven't considered?

I would expect that power usage of the M1 Max, even when idle, would be greater than the M1 Pro and that this would impact battery life somewhat. Any idea of real-life impact on the 14"?

Is there anything else that has been confirmed, such as poorer thermal performance and higher temperatures or fan noise?

I've created a separate thread on Max vs Pro in terms of thermals, battery, fans: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...oler-system-with-better-battery-life.2320008/

Collected everything I encountered on the topic so far; please join us contributing there.
