14pm battery is getting better w/o aod on. 19% left and this is almost as good as my 13pm.

Tested aod on and less 2 hours at least

My 14 pro is ok. Better than my mini but I expected a bit better.

Impressive. What are your settings? Background app refresh, location services? What's your app usage graph look like?
Reddit, amazon music, camera, calls, texts and safari. Very few background refresh and a few for location.

Same test with aod and 2+ hours less easily.

Yep. Getting very good now. Last charged to 83% at 00.32 and now at 7.30am still same.

Impressive. What iOS are you on? Think it was just a "wait" approach to the phone sorting its self out?

Now your turn to answer your question 😊
I don't like disabling stuff. I want to use my iPhone with all the settings and features Apple intended to be used turned on, including background app refresh and all location services. I reset all settings on my iPhone last night to give this "straight out of the box approach" a go, so I'm curious how others configure their iPhones with Settings.

I don’t configure. 7 hour SOT is more than enough per day

I agree. We shouldn’t have to turn certain things off, or out that much thought into battery management in order to get advertised battery life.

The 14 pro is WAAAAY below advertised battery life with it or without their new AOD display on. You can say you’re going to get X life, then when it doesn’t go “ya well it still gets a full day of charge….”

That’s like buying a new car that has an advertised 3.4 0-60 time, having it test 4.1, and saying “ya but it’s still really fast…”

Facebook does seem to use a ton of battery life and I only use it for marketplace and watching funny video shorts.

I’m pretty sure my battery life got worse after the first IOS 16 update too. For the first couple of days after I got it on release day it seemed to drain way slower, even while going through app and data transferring. I feel like it’s slowly gotten worse.

14PM with AOD since launch day pick up. Battery has been awesome last few days. Like 13PM. I can imagine without AOD will be better than 13PM. AOD has grown on me. It stays on.

Yesterday off charger at 6:15 am at 100%. Got home around 5:25 pm. Still had 40% left. This is what I call great battery life. This is all I need.

I got down to about 5% after 23 hrs and didn’t wait until depletion at about the same as above ^^^^

I’d like to know how anyone that has done tests has ever gotten over 10 hours of screen time doing anything. Over 10 hours browsing - not even remotely close for me, and I haven’t been screaming any music at all - nine. Maybe those blogs tested before the iOS 16 update!

Hi Sami good seeing you on here. 👍🏼
I’m on iOS 16.0.2, Wi-Fi background refresh is off , currently at 80% down 3% since last post.
Haha, thanks! I'm always lurking the forums (obviously), but want to try and be more engaged, so hey! And thanks for the screenshot. Battling with my iP14PM to see how much I can squeeze out of it.

How is getting better? I shut mine off and my battery life has dramatically improved. I'm running 16.0.2.

TIA.

Thanks. I bought mine on launch day. It only “settled down “ yesterday, battery consumption wise. I use iCloud for all my photos and documents. Around 180GB worth of data.

I’m a battery/efficiency hobbyist (from UL backpacking gear optimization) and prefer the way Apple (and electronics industry in general) uses ‘up to’ specs for runtime - that’s what I strive for. Electronic gadgets, esp. smartphones, are so overpacked with features, and everyone uses them so differently, it would be impossible to define what ‘average user’ specs should be.

Anecdotally from folks batt graph screenshots, it seems ~half Apple spec is realistically achievable using a stock config, 50% wifi, and little/no effort to tune their settings/antennas. However, if folks invested a bit of time to go through various features’ cost(battery)/benefit(convenience), there might be lots of freebies turning off stuff they don’t know, need, or care about. Same idea with battery management - stock Apple ‘optimization’ is probably good for 2-3yrs (normal upgrade horizon), but batts can easily last twice that with bit of understanding and an automated custom optimization (no tending). The benefit of making the knowledge investment is that it’s durable phone after phone.

As for 10hrs SOT, as a hobbyist I’m way out on the bell curve, but here’s a 3yo phone arguably still worthy of its Apple’s SOT Spec.

^^^^ I get that. Does the EPA rate mpg at 55mph, down hill, with no wind, on perfectly smooth roads, with the most wind efficient wheels?

I'm being sarcastic obviously, but if they are rating their phones with advertising a battery life that won't be achievable by the majority of users, without having to think about it settings at all they have failed. 99% of phone users don't want to deep dive into battery efficiency or ration use. I'm not saying that is the case here, or that Apple does this either, I don't think they are that exaggerated, or deceptive with their approach at all. Although they did lose a law suit for actively slowing down phones and reducing battery life on purpose to encourage people to buy new phones....

Clearly people are noticing that some iphone 14 models are not living up to battery expectations that have been set by Apple.

My battery performance with AOD on since 9/16 has been great.

I turned off background refresh on a ton of apps I don’t use every day and location services for some apps that don’t need it on. Even deleted apps that I’m not using.

So did resetting improve your battery drain ?

I am planning to do so to make sure there is nothing wrong with the phone as I am 2 days within the return window!
