Got a 14 Pro which I love. 48mp ProRaw is outperforming my APS-C camera. However, I am experiencing a problem.

I get a stutter / shake and audible noise in the video when I pan the camera around while using the 3x lens.

It’s worst by far when panning upward, but also happens to a lesser extent panning side to side. It doesn’t happen when panning down (phone held in landscape with dynamic island to the left). It doesn’t happen with the other two lenses either, only the 3x.

I know there were shaking problems with 3rd party apps like Insta and Snap Chat, but I don’t use those. This is the stock Apple Camera app. I also updated to 16.1.1 to be sure that there wasn’t a software fix. Is this something others are experiencing, or is is a problem specifically with my phone?

I just tried the 3x lens with a landscape video on my 14 Pro (16.1.1) using the stock camera.
I’m not getting these sounds nor am I getting shaking when panning up, down, or side to side.

Thank you for checking - I appreciate it. You tried it in good, bright lighting, right? In low/poor lighting, the camera system will bypass the 3x lens and just crop the image on the main 1x sensor to make it look like you’re using the 3x camera. When mine does that, the resulting simulated 3x video looks fine (because the main lens doesn’t have the issue).

I spoke to Apple who ran some diagnostics over the phone. The next step is to back it up and wipe it clean to start over again with a fresh iOS install. I don’t honestly think it’ll help, but I’m willing to try if it helps me get a phone that has useable 3x video.

I’m about 90% sure my 3x optical image stabilization is physically messed up. I do wonder if maybe the software change they made to fix the 3rd party app camera shake issue could have affected things for me… not sure. We’ll see what happens with the new install tomorrow.

Hi @BigSensor! I'm experiencing exactly the same issue on my 14 Pro Max. In the native camera app, using the 3x lens only, panning in certain situations results in crazy shaking from the one of the hardware stabilization systems. If you put your ear to the camera module while it's happening, you can hear a faint buzzing sound when the stabilization is freaking out. Video attached.

I reached out to Apple Support today. The hardware diagnostics passed, but after looking into the issue and observing my screen recording, they mentioned that they've received similar reports recently and will be looking into it as a software issue, given the number of reports. That's not to say our OIS systems aren't busted — they still could be — but you're definitely not alone! They'll be getting back to me on Friday; I'll post an update if they provide any more info.

I have this problem too and i dont know if i have to do a system fresh install or directly bring it to apple store. I have the 1 year warranty coverage until November. Waiting for updates.

I have the same problem with my iPhone 13 Pro Max. Anyone got an update from Apple?
