So I've got a odd error- where it won't let me past the lock screen. I can access the control panel - and camera. but when I swipe to go past it- no go. I've tried a simple reset holding the top button and one of the volbumes- but that reset does not trigger.

Right now I'm just putting the flashlight on hoping to run down the battery.

it's an 11 pro.
any other ideas?

On the 11 Pro you do a reset by first pushing the top volume button, then pushing the down volume button and then holding the power button till you see the Apple logo. The way you were tying is for the older iPhones.

Yes really. Try clicking the link at the bottom of the article you yourself linked.

You should have read the link yourself, rather than saying that. You don’t do the top button, then the bottom, for the iPhone 11. You do one, or the other volume button.

How to restart your iPhone X or 11
  1. Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power off slider appears.

  2. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off.
  3. To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo.

The two buttons held down are to initiate a restart, but the OP needs to do what’s called a hard reset as it sounds like their OS is frozen. @swandy gave you the proper procedure above.

What about an iPhone XS? I lost cellular. Wifi shows its connected but none of my apps will open. I've had a phone that doesn't work for almost 12 hours. I can't power down. I've tried to hold volume button and side button until the apple shows up but it doesn't work. I currently have the flashlight on to drain the battery.

You need to do what Apple refers to as a force restart. Press volume up, then volume down, then press and hold the side power button for about 20 seconds until you see the Apple logo appear.

These instructions are to turn OFF the iPhone 11 NOT do a forced restart. You should read the article. I suggested doing a forced restart NOT turning it off and on.

@Ansath - Except the op is having trouble with a stuck phone. Turning it off and on won’t help. However, a proper reset ( a hard reset) should.

Hence, read the link. At the bottom it says very clearly over a link ‘learn what to do if your phone is frozen or won’t turn on’

If turning the phone off and on is possible then it should help in a similar way. The reset is more there for situations when turning off and on isn't really possible (due to the phone not responding or something like that).

That is the situation the OP was in, which is why I recommended the hard reset.

Apologies, I misread the OP.
