14" vs 16" M2 Macbook Pro gaming response times

I'll soon be buying a MacBook Pro as an all-round machine to replace an ageing Windows desktop. It'll be a 50/50 split between productivity and gaming (nothing too taxing - mainly World of Warcraft).

I'm having a hard time choosing between the 14" and 16" M2 Pro/Max.

Notebookcheck's reviews of the 14" and the 16" show that the 14" screen has far better response times (14" 35.2 g2g, 26.4 b2w - 16" 80.5 g2g, 47.2 b2w).

I have no reason to doubt their measurements, but sheesh, that's a big difference.

Are there 14"/16" users out there who do some gaming who are able to share their views on their preferred screen size for a smooth gaming experience?

I was leaning towards the 16", but for a better gaming experience I'd be willing to downsize.

And yeah, I could always get a gaming laptop, but the MacBook is clearly the best all-rounder.

seems like you have answered your own question with the knowledge of the response times. what’s left is to actually try it out in person, either at a apple store / local retailer or buy both & return the one you don’t like.
personally when it comes to size differences, watching tons of videos online didn‘t help me much, seeing the devices in store was much easier to compare sizes & you can demo the game there to see if you can tell a difference between response times of the two. good luck

Personally I'd prefer the 16". With the M2 Max it will perform quite a bit better in the 16" as well and the fans will spin less loudly, battery will last longer. The screen is bigger and that to me makes it more pleasant to work and play with. I am however not very sensitive to response times and refresh rates - I can just barely see the difference between ProMotion on and just 60hz so take that for what it is.

I really am quite confused.

Notebookcheck's review of the M1 16" MBP state "The screen shows slow response rates in our tests and will be unsatisfactory for gamers".

Well this video seems pretty satisfactory. I see no ghosting or blurring.

Am I just not seeing it with my mid-life eyes?
