I connect the mac mini with an old 15" lcd tv via hdmi, thedestip items distorted, and the mac mini saids, in about this mac, that the lcd is 20.5" 1280x720. Can I reset it in terminal?
When you click "best for display" what resolution is it outputting? Also, what adapter are you using to go from HDMI to VGA? Do you have a Mini displayport to VGA adapter by chance?

When I set the screen output as 1024 x 768, the screen will be partly out of the LCD range and half on the LCD, I need to adjust manually to the center. However, there still be big black margins at each side (as shown in the pic). Then after I press "best for the screen at the monitor, the screen will fit the lcd BUT when I switch off the LCD and turned on, the screen will be half out of the LCD range and half on the LCD and I again need to adjust manually to the center. If I don't press "best for display", after switch off and on the LCD, the screen will be kept at the center. Is that complicated?. Also, the icon on the screen is distorted, enlongated, unless I press "best for display" button. I use a unknown HDMI to vga adapter...
