Maybe I'm crazy, but I swear I saw a 15" iPad pro on the lap of a guy next to me on a plane. Flying SFO -> NYC. I even had my 11" iPad Pro in my hands as a direct comparison, his was way bigger than the 12.9".

This guy was also a coder, he was working on code for the rest of the flight on his 15" MBP.

Thoughts? Seems crazy to think a prototype would be out in the wild like that.

Did you see the actual screen? The first generation 12.9" Pro had a home button and much larger bezels. Physically it was considerably larger than the current 12.9" Pros.

Sure, 5 hour flight and you didn't get a picture. Lol.

It was unreleased 15.4" iPad Pro Max and you were the lucky one to see it first. Congrats!

Sure it’s running iPadOS?

Like some others have already suggested, the display/tablet portion of the 15" Surface Book is what came to my mind too. Or since he was a developer, perhaps he was using a portable display (these are thin and can look like a tablet), although I think it would be rather clunky to use that on an airplane.

It's incredibly doubtful that you would have seen a prototype in the wild. Did you get a picture of it so we could all take a look? If not, are you quite sure it was an iPad? Was it running iPadOS?

Did he have a wireless keyboard or a magic keyboard? If it was detached keyboard then I would say there’s a chance you saw a unicorn. If it was a magic keyboard I’d say you were under estimating the size of the 12”

Are you sure you didn't see one of these?

A better question is, how does OP know it was 15" and not 14.1" or 13.3"?

He was close enough to measure the display, but didn't inspect it?

Yeah, I’m not aware of a Surface Pro in 15 inch, but Surface Book, yes.

I’m sure Apple would have a 15in iPad Pro in the labs, but I don’t think they would ship it unless they could make it weigh the same as the 12.9in.
Which 12.9in pro? The first gen? The last gen? Weight has gone down from 730 to 680 to 640 and back to 680. Weight of my Surface Book 2 clipboard is around 800.
Meanwhile Samsung is coming up with a 14.6in Tab S8 Ultra at 650gr.... (but with a 16:10 ratio and no bezels, so overall not much larger than the 12.9in iPad, probably just as tall but longer)
