15" MacBook Pro Late 2016: Trackpad manufacturing error

If you click near the left and right borders of trackpad, then sometimes it works, sometimes not (it is mechanically blocked). I was also in Apple Store and the MacBooks there had same problem. So for me it's a manufacturing error. It's probably a design failure. Unexpected quality from such an expensive Apple device. I bought the MacBook in internet (not directly from Apple).
You can easily reproduce it when clicking near left or right border of Trackpad, afterwards on opposite site.
Problem doesn't (or less) occur on 13", but on 15" (latest MacBook Pro with Touch Bar).

Am I the only one who noticed that? I hope Apple will replace those Trackpads in a repair program.

It is unlikely to be "mechanically blocked" since the trackpads on recent MacBooks are solid state (except slight flexing).

Sometimes doesn't work, but I never click at the edges, so I wouldn't have known.

but..
I think it's designed like that.


If you slide from middle to the sides, the sides will work.
(you can even swipe up and down and click normally)

But if you start from the edge, it will not.

I think it's designed like that to......
to make the corner (hot spots) more easier to identify or some other shxt.
(sorry for my poor English).

I think you're right. I observed the same phenomenon.
Might have to do with palm rejection algorithms.

+1. IMHO this is the reason.

We already had a topic about this on the forum, you can search for it if you want. TLDR is - it's not an 'issue', it's by design and, yes, it's part of the palm rejection. Trying to click directly on the edge will not produce a click, however, try to put your finger further away from the edge, than drag the cursor until your finger reaches the edge, and then click. It works every time. That is to prevent accidental clicks on the edge. But if you start elsewhere and drag your finger to any edge - the click will work.

Don't worry about it. It's good that it works this way.

It's not a manufacturing problem, all the MacBooks in my Apple store have this.

it's part of the palm rejection as the others have said its the price you pay for a huge trackpad.
