15" MBP with Dual-layer superdrive?

as far as i know, the 15" powerbook had a dual-layer drive
the only thing that's keeping me from going for the 15" MBP is the fact that it doesn't have a dual-layer superdrive. other wise, i'll get an imac.
i'm going to need one for burning movies
why hasn't apple put the dual-layer drive on the 15" MBP? (at least the higher end model)

i'd suggest an external burner - the superdrives are crap (anyone will tell you they're slow) and not what you're going to want as your dedicated burner if you're burning many DVDs. plus, the external DL burners can be had for fairly cheap nowadays.

that's true. i guess i just assume that most people don't need to burn many DVDs on the go. the OP also said he needed it for burning movies, which i would assume he wouldn't be doing at work, and that his alternative is purchasing an iMac, which wouldn't be shuttled back and forth anywhere, either (so obviously burning on the go isn't terribly important to him).

but no, you're right, externals are clunky and would mostly need to be stationary, so your specific needs would have to be considered before the buy.
