hey i have decided to purchase my first mac....should i go for the 15' or 17' MBP...
some backgrounds are: have no previous experience with mac, intense gaming/music. loves to watch movies on comp...no money budget...feedbacks will be appreciated =) thanks

It's kind of confusing....will you be using it for gaming or not?

If you are, I would get the 17" just 'cause it is 'cheaper'.

I play SIMS 2 & I have the 1.83 15" model, with 1 GB of RAM, & it runs great.

But if you can afford it ... then I would deffinately go with the 17".

kinda wish I had waited...but 17" is just too big for me...
I like small screens & high resolutions.

yeaa will use it for gaming...i pplay world of warcrafts...which demands nice video card /resolution...but is the 17' a lot heavier than the 15'?

Go for the 17". It''s not that much bigger and only a pound heavier. You get an extra USB port, Dual layer DVD burner, 2" extra screen space (on which gaming is gorgeous!) and since it's a little bigger, it'll like be cooler than a 15".

one more question...i'm planning to install window xp on it also....ive heard stories about how installing window onto a mac will completely slows it down....is it true? will it affect gaming?

I have windows installed and it doesn't slow down anything at all. It still runs he same. I just never use windows; it sucks. But I use it sometimes just for kicks & giggles.

Just wanted to let you know, that if you're going to want 2GB of RAM, a 2.16 processor, and a 120GB hard drive on your 15.4", the 17" is actually cheaper, not to mention that you get an 8x DL SuperDrive, bigger screen, and other various upgrades.

I'm going 17" when I buy mine.

Daniel.

thats weird...when you configure the 15" to meet the 17" specs, its actually more...i was looking at the 15" as i like the size...but you get more for less here...

'More for Less' is debatable. Some people just don't want the larger size.

In my case, they agreed to switch out my DOA 15" MBP for the 17". My first MBP was maxed out completely so I was actually given a 100 dollar refund by Apple. :D

Seriously! And I think I really wanted the 17" anyway, but got sick of waiting.

I've never been happier to have received a defective product ... :p

If you intend to game on the machine you might want to consider that the graphics card in the two machines are the same and I know from running my MBP 15" on my 20" ACD that driving a display at 1680x1050 (the same as the 17" MBP) is a significant strain on the card for modern games (yes, I disabled the built in display) such as Call of Duty 2. As a result I now do all my gaming on the built in screen at 1440x900 and the card seems much happier.

You know you can drop the resolution inside the game right? I play Call of Duty 2 on my 15" MBP at a very similar performance on the native screen and on the 30" at the same res.

Of course, but when I ran the 20" at 1440x900 it looked rotten compared with the native 1680x1050 :D

How did you get the May 20th date? I ordered on the first day and got a delivery date of May 11th (ship by May 8th). I just checked online and it says 5-7 business days for shipping ... Did they push back the shipping date in your order> If yes, to what?

Interesting...I just ordered mine last night and have a ship date of May 10th. But I did not get a CTO either.
