Hey guys here is my prob
this morning computer worked just fine
took it to work with me worked just fine
got home and now I get the question mark folder icon flashing on startup
So I tried techtools to diagnose the problem:
the HD does not come up as a volume
nor does it when using Disk utility...
How can I get the computer to recognize the HD?
Did my HD crash?.. How do I get Data off it ?
I just put on it today a project that I need severely and I was about to back it up at home when my PB went bonkers...
thanks in advance

Is the hard drive internal or external on your PowerBook? Do you hear it spin up? or does it make any noises or clicks? If you hear a clicking sound I'd say your hard drive is dying. How old is your PowerBook?

the hd might not be dead...it could be a loose connection. you could take the powerbook apart (google powerbook upgrades) and see if the connection is loose. also, if it is connected, you could try zapping your pram...i've seen the pram be messed up a few times and strange things like that happened.

but if you hear clicking noises, then the hd is dead...or just about dead. but hopefully that's not the case.

hope that helps

Thanks guys for replying...

the HD is officially dead.
So dead that even the cleanroom techs cant get data of it...
I have never had such a spectacular hard drive crash.
but three HDs in 9 years of having 8 macs is not bad at all.

Thanks again
:)
