Got a cool surprise last week - kids bought me a 15PM, Ti Blue, 256GB for my birthday. Serious surprise. I have gifted them many a phone.
Phone was mfg’d in September and shipped late Sept. Looks like Apple is trying to build and ship quickly.

Day 1: Turned on the device and after a quick bare setup, installed 17.0.3 OTA. Did another bare setup then reset the device and redid 17.0.3 ipsw and decided to setup as new. I then spent a good bit of time installing all the apps I have on my 13PM. Btw - device got warm. Measured 111.3F with my IR reader.

Day 2: Spent a good bit of time signing into my apps, setting up Apple Pay and Wallet and swapping my eSIM (Mint Mobile). Mint made the swap seriously painless. You have to use their app and it took about 60 seconds. Ran into a few odds during this (Safari tab freezing, Proton Pass locking in sync mode, Spark crashing when setting up new account - all app related). Did notice Face ID was wonky - frequently took a couple of retries to unlock. Device got warm but not really hot. 98.5F max. Paired my Apple Watch Ultra after unpairing from my 13PM. Lockscreen is minimal with a photo for background, date, time, weather, sunrise/sunset set up. Only a weather widget (stock) set.

Day 3: Turned off AOD, too bright for my liking. Going to give a week before I measure the battery. Not bad so far but very inconsistent. Likely due to setup and syncs. WiFI is 6/6e at 1GB. Seeing some issue with staying connected. 5G has been decent. No call issues. Charges odd though. Do not have Optimization on nor 80% however once it hits 80% charging via cable it drops from the 20’s watts down to around 10 watts. Using an Anker 65W block. Going to stay with cable for a week to measure.

Apps have been mostly good outside the occasional freeze. UI is very smooth. The OS has been for the most part good. I will repot bugs as I run across them. Btw - the badge update bug and iMessage status across devices still exists. I am seeing an issue with Spark randomly freezing. I have three Gmail accounts linked.

17.0.3 appears to help keep things cool. No warmer than my 13PM unless I got a “cool” unit.

Congratulations and happy belated birthday!

I just got mine today and went straight to iOS 17.0.3, so will see how it goes, so far it only got warm when setting up this afternoon, once the data transfer from my old iPhone was done and iCloud restore concluded, all has been fine and cool. :)

Update: Analytics.

Concerning based on past incidents, but when I look into Analytics I am seeing an awful lot of JetsamEvent and WiFiQLMMetrics (new?) entries. Not one or two, rather a few dozen in just a few days.

Anyone have an idea what the WiFi entries are? When I open the entry there is no displayed data. The JetsamEvent items are across the board from core apps to 3rd party.

Am not seeing this on the 13PM, only on the 15PM.

Been using this 15PM for a few days now and want to give a quick first impression compared to my other daily use phones: 13 ProMax, Galaxy S23 Ultra.

1. While it may be just a few grams, the weight difference between the 13PM and the 15PM is very noticeable. This is a good thing.

2. Without a case (or even with - I use Pitaka cases) the 15PM is ergonomically much better in the hand. Still, the S23U is even better.

3. Dynamic Island is a love / hate relationship at this point. I can see some benefits however I find it interferes with some apps. More so than the Notch. Wish it was smaller.

4. Miss the Silence Switch. If Apple had not turned off Silence as an option for Back Tap I would definitely be finding some use for it. For now I am experimenting. Silent is such a beneficial option for me.

5. Battery between the 13PM and the 15PM seems close. Still early for the 15PM. The S23U has better battery SOT.

6. Compared to the 13PM and S23U, the 15PM has WiFi issues. Hope it is a software item and not hardware.

Using the 15PM as my main to really test it out for a couple of weeks.
Gifted the 13PM.

That was my experience as well. Switching devices on Mint Mobile was fantastically easy.

Switch device from Att to MM was a complete and utter pain in the neck.

Congrats and happy belated birthday. Very great surprise and gift. My kids aren't of age yet to give me such nice gifts. Can't wait for that. Just turned 41 yesterday. I went ahead gifted myself a new LV Josh bookbag for trips and what not. Yup I'm that dad that carries their chargers/cables/devices/etc when we travel. Fits my MBAM2 perfectly too.
