no it's no normal. i think they claim 5 sec startup on their forums (with a large database) so 5 is definitely not normal

I gave up on Omnifocus today and decided to switch to Toodledo, only 3 second start up time with 150 tasks! Thankfully I never purchased the desktop version of Omnifocus for the hefty $80 price tag. (been running off of their beta releases) Omnifocus had gotten to the point where it was taking 16 seconds to start up on my iPhone even after a fresh restore to 2.1...not very useful when you want to quickly jot something down.

There is a new update

They just fixed this problem. OmniFocus just updated the program a few days ago to version 1.1. Now, while the data is loading, the button to add to the inbox is active within 1-2 seconds.

Also, there is a lot of hints on their website forums on how to compact the data file so it will load much, much faster.

For the little amount of data that a lot of people including myself had, there is really NO excuse for bad design resulting in a long load time to get the program fully loaded. Not to mention, the onus should NOT be on the user to "compact" data files to get the program to work as expected, and that is quickly.........

I misspoke. There is a compaction technique to speed the syncing between the iPhone and the desktop version - but the load time is almost immediate. With this new version (1.1) you can be entering new data within 1 second. I'm just a huge fan of this software and I hope it works well for anyone who tries it.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F136 Safari/525.20)

loading the data != being able to enter a new task! OmniFocus should be able to deliver a much better iPhone app with the desktop counterpart costing $80!

Not sure what you are arguing against. I tap Omnifocus on my iPhone, and I am entering new data within 1 second and reading my data within 3. There are lots of apps on the iPhone that take 1-3 seconds to load.
