15" with 23" Cinema Display?

I want to get the SR MBP as my "everything" machine (replacing my iMac) and an external monitor. The 23" looks very appealing, but as with anything Apple, pricey.

Does the 15" MBP and a 23" Cinema HD display make a good combination/investment? Is it usable in a dual screen mode (e.g., what kind of resolutions does each monitor get), as I know that you can't use the external monitor's full potential if you have it in dual screen.

Other than that, I've decided on a 160 5400RPM. I have a lot of "STUFF" on my current iMac, using around 205 GB. I think I could probably shrink down to 160 and put some stuff on an external drive. I just want to be able to carry all of my important stuff with me. I'd love to get the 200GB drive, but 4200 RPM just seems too slow for an "everything" machine. I do a *small* amount of video editing and a smaller amount of 3D rendering with Blender, but it's home video type and hobby stuff that I'll likely be doing on an external drive anyway. Other than that, it's all general use and web development. The 5400 should be fine, right?

The 23" and 15" MBP will work fine together, I'm pretty sure you'll get full resolution on both. As for the HD, 5400 RPM will be just fine for what you're doing, although I face a similar debate with my decision to buy a new MBP, the 5400 should be fine for whatever you're doing.

Fantastic news. I don't suppose anyone has a pic or two of a 23" cinema with a 15" MBP on one of those trendy elevators to bring it up to monitor level? I'm going to wait until after WWDC to order, so I'd like to have something to drool over until then.

23" is going to be a nice upgrade from my 20" iMac Core Duo. I might even boost for an Airport Extreme and a USB hub so I can rid myself of the printer on my desk to make room for it. I'm sure somebody's made a 4 port hub that resembles the Mac Mini/Airport Extreme form factor.

Ah, I'm going to regret the credit card bills, but it sure will be a sweet setup.

Apple should really give a discount on these monitors if you purchase it with the system! Heh

On a semi-related note, I noticed on the order page the AppleCare lists itself as: AppleCare Protection Plan for MacBook Pro/PowerBook (w/or w/o Display) - Auto-enroll. Does that mean the Apple Care covers the display as well? If so, if I elect to purchase Apple Care in 11 months or so, would it cover the display then as well? Just want to make sure that I'm not turning down a potential savings if I do.

Seagate does make a 200gb 7200 rpm 2.5 in sata hard drive you can buy.

Very usable. You won't get a performance hit. MBP is 1440X900. I believe 23 inch ACD is 1680X1050, could be updated monday, who knows!

You have to purchase the computer and display at the same time for the screen to be covered by AppleCare.

On the release of these new MacBook Pro's I changed my mind from the Mac Pro to one of these as an "all in one computing solution" to replace my iMac and MacBook I just sold. I'm waiting till WWDC before I order the following:

MacBook Pro 2.4Ghz, 23" Apple Cinema Display, 4GB RAM, 160GB 7200RPM HDD.

23" Apple Cinema Display is 1920 x 1200 pixels. You'll be able to run both at full resolution together.

One other questions:

For protection from day to day scratches, the two leading items appear to be the Rhino Hardcase and the Spec SeeThru Hard Case. Anyone have any recommendations on which of these two items provides the most protection/style?
