I don’t like the PM size and want to switch to 16P from my 15PM.

I do use the phone heavily, and average about 8h SOT daily.

I am interested in hearing from people who switched from 15PM to 16P specifically in terms of battery life, as there are various tests indicating that it should be only marginally different.

Thanks in advance.

Funny enough, I just got my 16P yesterday (from 15PM). I have enjoyed the smaller (lighter) form factor, and I cannot tell much difference in battery life for what I use a phone for.
That sounds positive. What is your typical usage pattern, and how much SOT do you average a day? Would you say you’re a heavy user (what battery % would you typically end your day on when on 15PM, and now on 16P)?

Sorry for the barrage of questions 😅 Thanks!

Anyone else? Planning to go buy the 16P tomorrow so would appreciate any other input.

Thanks.

From my experience the 16p battery sits between the 15p and 15pm.

If you use all the battery on your pm with 8sot expect an hour less on the 16p
I end the day with about 10-15%, starting at 07:00 and putting it on charge around 23:00. SOT is around 8hr. You think that will be doable on the 16P without a top up?

I would not bet on that. Especially after a year with battery getting worse

Thanks for that perspective. I really want to go back to a smaller form factor, but don’t know if I want to sacrifice the freedom of an all day battery life.

Ugh, decisions.

Decision is kinda easy - pro series battery was always mediocre.

From there it either works for your use case or not. Like i have 15 pro, had 14pm and 15pm. Wife has 16pm.

The reality is that pro max is totally in different realm phone series. 14pm hand me down with shot battery still worked 8-10 hrs. My new 15 pro works on average 7 hrs but on 4g internet and 5.5hrs with bad 5g reception. At most I squeezed out couple times 11hrs by listening to headphones (music cover static on screen) or browsing safari on wifi with lower brightness. Basically you have to dance around it a lot to get more than 8 hrs.

My wife’s 15pm and now 16pm just live 13-16 hrs every day no matter what you do. For me that becomes a 2 day phone to be honest, when she hands me down those pro maxes every year.

I kinda enjoy smaller phone but it is not that small and light. If anything ergonomics wise regular 16 followed by plus works better - pro line is just heavy. Pro max albeit heavier has a better wider grip if anything.

My next phone would be pro max. Pro works for my lifestyle (8hr office) where i use my phone 30 min on breaks and mornings, maybe listen to music with screen off, and use heavily in the evening. Sometimes it makes to bed charger sometimes doesn’t last till sleep time. But on outings like exploring major cities, this pro phone is a toast before the day ends so no maps or anything unless hauling powerbanks.

In short, 10 hrs on pro if very lucky cause that is not a regular case. Regular case is more like 7-9hrs.

For pro max, regular is 12-15.5 hrs.

Great post, thanks man. It sounds like that as much as 16P is a huge improvement over the 15P, it’s still not a full day phone for a heavy user. Given that I travel a lot and am often in those city exploring, need GPS, constantly using data heavily situations, moving to 16P may be a counterproductive move notwithstanding the ergonomic benefits.

Yes that doesn’t sound like a normal pro would handle for a day.

But the guys in the 16 battery health thread should be able to provide you with excel sheets and diagrams of SOT, battery drain and capacity ;)

I tend to agree with your analysis. I am not a "heavy user," and my general use consists of scrolling on the internet, checking email, and scrolling social media (via strong WiFi). Most of my "heavier" use is during the morning/evening commute (cellular, GPS, phone calls, streaming audio, etc.), and it is plugged in during that time.

For reference, my SOT averages 5-6 hours. I think I could double those numbers with my use and still squeeze by. I am also close to a charger most of the time, and if I am traveling, I always keep a battery pack close.

With my use I have the "luxury" of choosing based on desired form factor. For you (and others), that may put you into a less than ideal situation.
