There is an opportunity for me to get a M1 iPad Pro for $1299 with 1TB/16GB. The same config is $999 with 256gb.

I don't need the storage

I will be pairing this probably with a keyboard and maybe an external monitor down the line. I want to have lots of safari tabs open, lots of PDFs open, multitasking, video calls etc

But zero photo or video editing.

Is it worth the extra $300?

Sounds like a good deal. Assuming you're talking about the 12.1" model and in like-new condition, they're going for about $1500 (wi-fi only) and $1650 (wi-fi + cellular) in Apple's refurbished store. Personally, I'd just spend the $300 extra for peace of mind unless that's going to keep you from feeding your family 😉 And of course your current needs might evolve to where you'd regret not getting the extra on-board storage.

Assuming the computer is legit, I don’t see why you want to save $300 to get both less storage and less RAM. I can tell you, even if your demand remains the same, underlying software that powers your demand will eat up more system resources whether you like or not. I can assume you are conscious about money, thus buying a computer that lasts long Will save you more money in the long run.
Not to mention the demand can change.

Don't buy the 1TB/16GB ram variant. I had an ipad Pro 10.50 until I upgraded to an M1 last year. Both devices ran without i threw at them with flying colours e.g spread sheets, gaming, pdf, photo edition and split screen multi tasking.

If you plan to use it as a productivity device you will likely run into software limitation than feel like your device is under powered.

I would buy the 256GB variant and set aside $300 for a future trade in or purchase of an M1/M2 macbook.

You would only take full advantage of 1TB/16GB if you plan to edit long 4K videos with tens of layers.

Or use lots of applications and keep all of them running at the same time while storing photo libraries locally. It is not hard to use up 1TB of internal storage and 16GB of RAM nowadays. This whole “edit video is the only justification“ is getting old fast.

Lol, I know some PC users recommending 32GB RAM because modern web browsing is a major memory hog regardless of what browser you’re using.
