Weather here is getting cooler. I have been using this 16 M1Pro since Sun and tonight I kid you not, the palm/wrist rest is extremely cold that I want to wear gloves while typing this. I am wondering if extreme weather situation could be bad for this epic machine, wondering if I should keep it inside a sleeve when not in use or.. just let it be silver cold?

Also, the battery life.. wow! I have not charged this since Tuesday and it is still 84% with light to moderate use (word docs, Citrix, final cut, music, safari, YouTube, etc). This is amazing :) but cold!

You need an Intel machine to double as a personal oven. But remember to plug them in since most of them lose half of the power and therefore heat when they are on battery power.

My xps def heats up with or without battery. However, I do like the carbon palm rest for comfort

You need BOINC...!!!
BOINC runs quite quietly with M1 Max, though it seems to be mainly using CPU (Rosetta@Home). The 14” does get comfortably warm though ?

I was freezing this morning too but I went to use my 15" MBP and it got nice and warm and felt really, really good ?
Having used my 14” for a week, I went back to using the 16” i9 and was suddenly hit with a wave of nostalgia. Maybe my opinion was too unfair, the screen is large, it looks thin and the chassis was cold to the touch. Then OneDrive decides to really spin up the fans and I was snapped back to reality - now I remember why I was so frustrated with it!

Here are the temperature results for the new cool MacBooks compared to the old overheating intel ones. 91 degrees for the old one near the processor, and 74 degrees on the new ones. Both had been running for hours transferring files nonstop. Amazing. I have been editing video, transferring large files and not once have the fans kicked on. Makes me want to cry.

As a solution, I propose we trade my 15“ 2018 MBP for your 16“ M1 Pro. It will not be as cold.

This is exactly why I use dBrand skins because it isn’t too shocking when I pick it up or use it. These NE winters are frigid!
This is true, my xps has dbrand and when I pick it up, it is not icy cold. However, this new MBP is nicely built that I don't want to cover it with vinyl!! Silver one

Really amazing. Actually this is just to report how cool these machines are. My old MBP runs warm that I bought a laptop stand with a fan ... May have to get a portable heater now haha.. Kidding

For me, using skins serves other purposes as well. It preserves the finish—especially the palm rest, and has a texture that makes it easier to pickup and carry around. That texture really helps when the weather is cold and your hands are dry. I have the 16” in space gray, and while the finish is exquisite, I’m more for my comfort. ?

Did you put a skin on the palm rest? I wonder if that will hurt the gorgeous screen?

I’m still waiting for the skins to arrive. dBrand skins were/are? pre-order for mid-November shipping. I’ve used skins on the palm rest for years without it harming the screen. There’s enough clearance that it is not an issue. I worry more about the keys more so than the palm rest.

Maybe try running bitcoin mining; machine will be warmer and you'll get extra crypto at the end of the month ?
