Does anybody have real world experience in terms of the 16-inch M2 Max's battery life? Do this year's improvements make its battery last as long as the 16-inch M1 Pro from last time around, or is that expecting too much?

Got mine earlier this week. Worked on it unplugged for the first time today. Started my day at 9am 100% battery life. It's almost 5pm now and I'm at 50% battery. I had it in lower power mode and the display at half brightness. This was while doing coding, web browsing, document/spreadsheet editing, messaging, and zoom meetings.

I'm more than happy with the battery life.

Sounds like it has pretty good battery life then. Any issues with it getting overly hot or the fans running a lot?

I think doing light tasks it’ll be a battery monster due to the greater number of efficiency cores compared to the M1 Max. Wouldn’t expect additional heat/battery drain unless you’re really pushing it to its limits :)

26:51 hours of video playback on the MAX is pretty, pretty, pretty good

I wish there was a chart like that comparing it directly to the 16-inch M1 Pro since that was the battery champ last time around.

I'd really like to know the direct effect of the three levels of cpu too 19/30/38, I originally oped for the 30 to balance, but perhaps the full 38 would have been ok.
